About Hoh Rainforest Campground

The reservation season for the 2026 summer season for the Hoh campground is June 12, 2026 - September 6, 2026.Important information about booking windows: To better serve visitors, Hoh Campground will be releasing campsites in a series of three staggered block releases by loop. These block releases will be 6 months in advance, two weeks in advance, and 4 days in advance. • A loop campsites will be available for reservation 6 months in advance.• C loop campsites will be available for reservations two weeks in advance.• B loop campsites will be available for reservations 4 days in advance.  Outside the reservation season, Hoh Campground is open for camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Some campsites may be closed during winter.  The Hoh Rain Forest, pronounced "Hoe", earns its name from the ever-flowing Hoh River that carves its way from Mount Olympus towards the Pacific Coast. However, where the name originates, is up for debate. The word "Hoh" undoubtedly comes from Native American languages; possibly the Quileute word "Ohalet" which means "fast moving water" or "snow water." Since the river itself forms from glacial runoff, that origin seems straightforward. Other explanations state that the Quinault word "Qu," meaning "boundary," could be the root of the name as a river as massive as the Hoh certainly forms a formidable boundary across the landscape. A third consideration claims that the word "Hoh" translates to "man with quarreling wives." What the actual history behind the name is, appears to be lost to time. Regardless of the name, there's no question as to the allure that draws visitors back to the rainforest year after year. Throughout the winter season, rain falls frequently in the Hoh Rain Forest, contributing to the yearly average of 140 inches (3.55 meters) of precipitation each year. The result is a lush, green canopy of both coniferous and deciduous species. Mosses and ferns that blanket the surfaces add another dimension to the enchantment of the rainforest.

Excellent campground. Some sites are under trees in the rain forest and others are in a field near the river. We stayed in campsite 27A, which is a left pull through. We have a 30 foot trailer with a 20 foot tow vehicle and fit easily. I listened to other reviewers and went in the loop the wrong direction so our camper door would face the campsite. This campsite is within walking distance of the Hoh rain forest visitor center, the hall of mosses trail, the spruce trail, and the Hoh river. There is also a little hut to buy firewood. The kids loved riding their bikes through the campground and we met other nice families. I highly recommend staying here! The only inconvenience is the dump station was closed, so we went to Kalaloch campground to dump and spent the day at the beach! Beach 3 has a long turnout for parking so we were able to park the truck and trailer there while we hiked down to the beach.

Nice national park. There are two shorter trails from the visitor center. Also other trials. You need to get to this park early as parking fills up quickly. Good ranger talks. Camping is normal park camping a plus is the restrooms which are new and have running water.

We stayed at campsite 5 in Loop A. #5 is a super quick walk to the bathrooms, trash, and running water without being directly next to it. Very nice experience. The Spruce Trail and Hall of Mosses Trail are both gorgeous and scenic while also being easy hikes, especially for inexperienced hikers or kids.

Great spot by the water! Able to hang hammocks and was surrounded by the Hoh forest.

Had a somewhat terrifying experience with a stalker. Old man (60+ in grey springer van parked near entrance) told me he had watched me enter and later came over while I was alone. I was able to politely get him to leave (he wanted me to come to his van to record a podcast). My partner said I should report just in-case as the whole situation was suspicious.

I attended the Ranger’s class about the Rain Forest& later went on the Ranger led hike … both excellent. Even though there were no hookups, the campsite was just what I like. Close walk to Visitor Center.
