About Hoh Rainforest Campground

The reservation season for the 2026 summer season for the Hoh campground is June 12, 2026 - September 6, 2026.Important information about booking windows: To better serve visitors, Hoh Campground will be releasing campsites in a series of three staggered block releases by loop. These block releases will be 6 months in advance, two weeks in advance, and 4 days in advance. • A loop campsites will be available for reservation 6 months in advance.• C loop campsites will be available for reservations two weeks in advance.• B loop campsites will be available for reservations 4 days in advance.  Outside the reservation season, Hoh Campground is open for camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Some campsites may be closed during winter.  The Hoh Rain Forest, pronounced "Hoe", earns its name from the ever-flowing Hoh River that carves its way from Mount Olympus towards the Pacific Coast. However, where the name originates, is up for debate. The word "Hoh" undoubtedly comes from Native American languages; possibly the Quileute word "Ohalet" which means "fast moving water" or "snow water." Since the river itself forms from glacial runoff, that origin seems straightforward. Other explanations state that the Quinault word "Qu," meaning "boundary," could be the root of the name as a river as massive as the Hoh certainly forms a formidable boundary across the landscape. A third consideration claims that the word "Hoh" translates to "man with quarreling wives." What the actual history behind the name is, appears to be lost to time. Regardless of the name, there's no question as to the allure that draws visitors back to the rainforest year after year. Throughout the winter season, rain falls frequently in the Hoh Rain Forest, contributing to the yearly average of 140 inches (3.55 meters) of precipitation each year. The result is a lush, green canopy of both coniferous and deciduous species. Mosses and ferns that blanket the surfaces add another dimension to the enchantment of the rainforest.

Site 65C has to be the best site there. River view, fairly private for a campground and close enough to the bathrooms. Site was large. Stayed for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer!

This campground is an absolute gem for sure. I am so amazed how comfortable this campground is considering how secluded it is from society! Love the proximity to the beach, the access is very easy and accessible, and for the most part the campground is very clean. The ONLY problem I have with this campground is the lighting of the bathrooms.

The lighting inside and outside of the bathroom is unshielded and too 'blue'. For a few reasons, I think these light fixtures should be replaced with something better. For one, the bright lights in the bathrooms attract a ridiculous amount of moths and bugs from outside. Naturally light does this, but if you were to pick warmer color lights, and shield them from directly shining through the windows, that would really help the problem bigtime and make the bathrooms seem a lot cleaner and bug-free. Bugs are MUCH less attracted to lighting that's 2200K and warmer.

Same goes for the lighting on the outside, they aren't shielded, and the light bulbs shine directly into people's campsites, which doesn't seem very conducive to camping outdoors in nature.

Plus I'm not sure if you guys have looked into this, but you are lucky enough to boast some amazingly dark and starry skies on clear nights, which gets harder to find each year. You guys have a real chance to protect, preserve, and showcase this natural charm, even by becoming an official Dark-Sky Park through International Dark Sky Association. Great opportunity to promote astro-tourism and bring more families to your park for dark skies. However, to get that certification, you have to install dark-sky friendly lighting throughout the park, which means they must be shielded, only as intense as needed, and warm color, which is easier on glare to people's eyes and better for the environment. I hope this all makes sense, and check out darksky.org for more info about how to make your campground more naturally beautiful and safe!

Our visit was during record heat, July 2021. I was disappointed that the Visitor Center’s gift shop was closed.

Great trails in a beautiful rain forest. However, the campground was just ok in comparison to other campgrounds in the Olympics. Showers would have been great to have and more water stations and bathrooms. There was only one bathroom and water station in the loop C campground. There was no soap or hand sanitizer in the bathroom. Prepare for mosquitos. No concessions so, bring food or pack your lunch and snacks if hiking around for day use. Rangers at the visitor center were really nice and informative. Great Junior Ranger Program.
