This effort will rehabilitate the campground’s 185 campsites and nine bathrooms, replace the aging wastewater collection system, upgrade electrical and water systems, and support improvements to campground accessibility. About Ohanapecosh Campground

Ohanapecosh Campground, on the southeast side of Mount Rainier National Park, is surrounded by old growth forest and crossed by an exceptionally beautiful snow-fed river. Close to Ohanapecosh are popular hikes to Silver Falls. The Grove of the Patriarchs trail is closed to public access until the bridge accessing the Grove is replaced. The main attraction at Mount Rainier National Park is the mountain itself, a glacier-clad volcano of immense proportions. At 14,411 ft., it dominates the skyline for hundreds of miles. Visitors travel through majestic old-growth forests, past tumbling waterfalls and historic buildings to reach sub-alpine meadows, where world-famous wildflower displays are seen in July and August. Popular activities in the park include sight-seeing, hiking, climbing and camping. Ohanapecosh campground has an elevation of 1,914 feet. Weather is dry, cool and sunny in the summer with daytime temperatures in the 60 to 80-degree range. Even though the eastern side of the park can be sunnier than other areas, weather can be variable and visitors should come prepared.

My boyfriend and I had a great stay, lots of strong douglas firs for hammocking! Not too buggy in late August when we went. The park rangers at the visitor's center were very helpful when we needed some last minute trail suggestions due to road closure. When Steven's Canyon road is open the campground is close to both Paradise and Sunrise. I was proposed to on the trail to First Burroughs in Sunrise. I will never forget this trip!

This is a good site. The tent pad area was flat and level. We really liked hiking on the left side of the Silver Falls trail.

We had a lovely experience by the side of the river. The sites saved for the day of arrival were very wonderful sites. There was lots of space between camp sites. Silver Falls was beautiful as always, a 1.2 mile hike to get there.

Amazing campground with large campsites all nestled in an old growth forest. The Ohanapecosh river was a brilliant blue-green & the hike to Silver Falls was very pleasant. I climbed to the very top of the falls before returning to camp. Only downside was the burn ban & lingering smoke; I get it. I’ll definitely be back with friends.

Beautiful location, although heavily used. Our campsite had no neighbors on either side, which added to the feeling of privacy. Tent site and picnic table were in good shape. Due to high fire danger, we were not permitted to use the fire ring. Bathrooms were clean and modern, with a small closet for washing dishes.

We did not have time to attend the ranger programs or small museum, but they seemed nice.

The nearby within-Park road to Paradise Visitor Center was closed Monday through Friday (apparently for construction).

Please pay attention to campsite maximum limits when selecting a site. If you exceed posted limits, you may be turned away upon arrival if a larger site is not available.

Maximum two tents per site provided both tents fit within the specified tent pad dimensions. Most campsites can only accommodate one tent. There is a maximum six people per campsite. Many campsites can only accommodate four or less.

Maximum two passenger vehicles per site provided both vehicles fit in the driveway, are not parked on any vegetation, and are clear of the roadway.

There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites. Potable water is located in the B Loop. The dump station is out of order.

Please call the campground office at (360) 569-6627 for same day cancellations or if you will be arriving a day late. If a camper does not check-in at the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center at the campground window by 12:00pm check-out time the day after the scheduled arrival date, their reservation will be cancelled, the camper will incur a $10.00 service fee, and forfeit the first night's camping fee.
