About Ohanapecosh Campground

Ohanapecosh Campground, on the southeast side of Mount Rainier National Park, is surrounded by old growth forest and crossed by an exceptionally beautiful snow-fed river. Close to Ohanapecosh are popular hikes to Silver Falls. The Grove of the Patriarchs trail is closed to public access until the bridge accessing the Grove is replaced. The main attraction at Mount Rainier National Park is the mountain itself, a glacier-clad volcano of immense proportions. At 14,411 ft., it dominates the skyline for hundreds of miles. Visitors travel through majestic old-growth forests, past tumbling waterfalls and historic buildings to reach sub-alpine meadows, where world-famous wildflower displays are seen in July and August. Popular activities in the park include sight-seeing, hiking, climbing and camping. Ohanapecosh campground has an elevation of 1,914 feet. Weather is dry, cool and sunny in the summer with daytime temperatures in the 60 to 80-degree range. Even though the eastern side of the park can be sunnier than other areas, weather can be variable and visitors should come prepared.

We camped at H006 with an 18' trailer. There was barely room for the trailer and our truck. It would not hold a 27' trailer. The campsite was beautiful. The many Douglas Fir trees were stately and gorgeous. The hike to Silver Falls was beautiful and easy.

The Rangers were very helpful in finding another spot when our trailer was unable to back into our original spot. The Campground was beautiful but spaces were close together and people were loud at night and woke our baby several times. I wouldn't call this place dog friendly. They were very strict about them being on a 6ft or less leash and dogs couldn't enjoy any of the trails or water with us. They couldn't even chase a ball to burn some energy.

The campground is in a very convenient location to visit Mt Rainier NP. Don't forget to also get timed entry tickets. The spots were not very clearly marked and a bit chaotically laid out, so we were not exactly sure where to put up our tent. The toilets were not very clean and some of them were clogged. It is nice to swim at the river and you'll see a lot of families with kids here.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds! It's private and right next to the river. The sound of the water was the perfect lull to sleep. We spent two nights here and it was the perfect stop to see both Paradise & Sunrise side of the park. The wifi at the Visitor's Center allowed us to have a little service amidst gaps across most of the park. We would absolutely stay here again!
Pros:
Location was one of the more private sites in our loop
Bear box on site
Room for two mid-size tents and relatively flat space
Playing in the river was a HUGE win for our kids

Cons:
Bathrooms weren't the best in the CLoop, but the Visitor's Center was a little cleaner.

Please pay attention to campsite maximum limits when selecting a site. If you exceed posted limits, you may be turned away upon arrival if a larger site is not available.

Maximum two tents per site provided both tents fit within the specified tent pad dimensions. Most campsites can only accommodate one tent. There is a maximum six people per campsite. Many campsites can only accommodate four or less.

Maximum two passenger vehicles per site provided both vehicles fit in the driveway, are not parked on any vegetation, and are clear of the roadway.

Motor homes over 32 feet and trailers over 27 feet are not allowed to enter the campground. Turns on loop roads are tight and vehicle damage is likely to occur.

There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites. Potable water is located in the B Loop. The dump station is out of order.

Please call the campground office at (360) 569-6627 for same day cancellations or if you will be arriving a day late. If a camper does not check-in at the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center at the campground window by 12:00pm check-out time the day after the scheduled arrival date, their reservation will be cancelled, the camper will incur a $10.00 service fee, and forfeit the first night's camping fee.
