Fine campground; over-regulated by USFS with road parking and other restraints. Still correcting problem caused by over-publicity on USFS website 3 years ago. Unmaintained access road alone has solved the problem. Partial maintenance on just half the active slide area precludes trailers and day trippers. When road is fixed, usage wil self-regulate so long as agency doesn't over-promote the area.

We usually love this spot.. unfortunately this time we showed up to camp site 07 and it was a complete mess. There were chopped up trees laying across the tent pad that were way too large to move, the only spot you could put a tent was a mud hole, the fire ring was all bent up and inoperable and the site was covered in trash as well. The park ranger wasn’t even around the first day but the next day when he showed up he was extremely rude and did not seem to care that the site was in horrible condition. Despite us having our 18 month old daughter with us. This used to be such a nice place to camp. Will definitely be avoiding this campsite in the future.

This is a beautiful location, with great hiking along the Lewis River! Campsites are nice, with space between sites. The one downside of the campground was that there was only one working water pump. Make sure you bring good sized water containers unless you have a vehicle with a water tank. To make this more challenging, the pump sends water into a small drinking fountain that won't even fit a small water bottle. To get water to flow to a spigot where you can fill anything, you need to hold up a valve that diverts water from the drinking fountain-- if you let go for a second it cuts off water to the spigot. This definitely makes pumping a two-person job. This is a poor design for a campground water pump-- maybe they could make a change in this valve so you don't need to hold it up to fill a water container.
