Camp host was phenomenal! Fun to talk to and very knowledgeable!
Tent pads were spacious but need more gravel; ours filled up like a LAKE in every rainstorm we had (and it rained nearly every day this trip).
Campground was laid out nicely, and so peaceful. We could hear owls (my favorite!) at night and one particularly curious raven (second favorite!) during the day.
All in all, we had a lovely time even if rain and haze blocked out the sky for most of our trip. We’ll definitely be back again!

We have a great experience every year but this campsite is excellent and it’s the first year we’ve stayed here. The site is nicely secluded which was perfect for us and the only downsides are that you’re closer to the road to the lake which occasionally has late night road noise and you need to carry everything down into the campsite from your car. Not major inconveniences, but some small things to note. Overall we love the annual reset and I think we found our ideal spot!

Very nice, serene small campground loop in close proximity to A LOT of attractions in this remote area. Definitely a great place to set up as "base" for a few days of fantastic exploration. I plan to go again.

We stayed one night. It’s a long wilderness drive so do not forget anything. The campsites are well maintained. Firewood is available for purchase but we found sufficient down deadwood in the area. Bathrooms are typical. We were at site 25 and I didn’t realize we were next to the bathroom at reservation but it was not an issue at all. There are plenty of trees between each site. There is not a lot to do and given the long drive in, I can’t imagine staying more than two nights. We took a short drive to the lake and walked the trail and was lovely.

Because of the regional host being called away I chose the wrong site. The temporary host was very good and said the site we chose was reserved. He said he would work it out but we decided to leave.

The grass in the sites needs to be cut, the toilets could have been cleaner.
The location in the woods was fantastic, the lake was worth the trip.
Campground host was very helpful.

From Riverton, WV, take U.S. Route 33 south 2 miles to Briery Gap Road (County Road 33/4). Turn right onto Briery Gap Road. Go 2 miles to Forest Road 112, turn right and continue for 13.5 miles. Turn right on Forest Road 1. The campground is 1/2 mile on the right.
From Elkins, WV, take U.S. Route 33 to State Route 29, which is 1 mile west of Harman. Turn right onto SR 29, go south 18.6 miles and tum left onto Forest Road 1. Follow FR 1 for 2.5 miles.
Elevation: 1332 feet
9 mi drive to downtown Riverton (about 25 min)

- Be bear aware; keep all food out of sight in approved containers or locked inside your vehicle and remove all food from the area after eating
- This campground has first-come, first-served sites
- Limit two vehicles per single site; a daily fee is charged for extra vehicles
- Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood. Please help protect our forests from invasive species by obtaining your firewood at or near your camping destination and burning it on-site. Visit dontmovefirewood.org for more information.
