Spruce Knob Lake offers a beautiful and spacious camping experience with well-maintained facilities and stunning views, particularly of the stars. We had a great time. The campsite was accessible and a quick walk to the bathroom. The camp host was hospitable and helped us carry wood back to our campsite.
We had amazing weather during our stay and even tried some dark sky photography the second night.

Very clean and maintained
I wish the web sight had pictures of the sights so you can make a better selection but this is true with most Recreation.gov camp ground web sites

The campground was great. It was also empty during our late-June visit. We were able to change our reserved tent campsite on arrival, which was great. The location and availability of water was wonderful. We will return.

Mostly quiet and peaceful campground. Cooler summer temperatures at this higher elevation.

The campground is quite large and the sites are spread out which offers a sense of privacy. I chose a walk up site as I was traveling light. If you have a family and lots of gear I suggest you not choose a WKUP site.
There's several restroom (upscale outhouse) locations convenient to any site you choose. After visiting a few I found them to be clean and supplied with toilet tissue and hand sanitizer.
It rained almost all day the entire time I was there so I did not use the fire pit. Firewood was available for purchase but I thought the pre-packaged bundles were rather small.
The picnic table was quite large but it fit nicely under my 10'x10' canopy. The tent pad was satisfactory.
My only gripe...during the day some campers felt it necessary to serenade everyone with music and they seemed unaware or did not care about intruding on other folks solitude.
Overall I had a pleasant time and enjoyed the campground.

looked to cancel our reservation because of terrible weather - were ok with not getting complete refund- but couldn’t even get any refund because of website glitch problems. No big deal. But whatever.
