Spruce Knob Lake

Got lucky and not many people were there. Camp manager was nice and checked to see if I needed firewood. Very peaceful and quiet.

Beautiful campsite, I hope to go again next year. We went in mid-June, and the campsite was only about half-full of campers. No one was loud. My kids played in the woods near the campsite and did not encounter a single tick. There was also no poison ivy to be seen. There are pit toilets, complete with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. We bought firewood for $8 a bundle from the friendly manager. There is no camp store, so make sure you bring everything you need except firewood. We brought a lot of water since I had read reviews that said you had to boil the water. We received no such instructions about boiling the water, so I guess it is fine now. But we had brought enough for drinking that we only used the campground water for cooking.

It rained the first evening we were there. We had strung up a tarp and moved the picnic table under it, so we didn't get drenched. The sky was clear the next night, and the stars were amazing. The lake near the campsite is an excellent place to go stargazing. (In the camp itself there are too many trees to see much sky. But I'm not complaining about the trees! I love them!)

There are lots of hikes nearby. I highly recommend Seneca Creek trail. It was beautiful, and easy terrain for young kids or older hikers. (At least, the first 2 or 3 miles are - that's as far as we got before turning back.) We saw three red efts crossing the trail, a beaver pond and lodge right next to the trail, and so much lush, green beauty.

If you like fishing, you can fish at the lake. There were a lot of people fishing when we were there. You can bring a boat or paddle-board, but no swimming is allowed.

There are lots of birds. I saw a hummingbird, a warbler, and a thrush as well as more common birds like robins.

The rugged but clean sites really made me feel like I was out of town. They don’t feel commercial like so many campgrounds are now managed.

Campground was quiet and close to the lake, bathrooms were clean and the “campground host” was great.

What a beautiful campground! Remote, private, quiet, and clean. There is enough space between campsites to allow you to feel like you are tucked into the mountain all by yourself.

The campsite was in excellent condition. The camp host was very kind and helpful.

Stayed at site 22, great site with good amount of privacy would come again and recommend. Great camp hosts!

Mr. Kaleb was fantastic. Awesome to have a site host check-up on make sure you are situated. Answered all my questions and provided me additional info on the surrounding area. Site was clean and cozy. WV and Route 28 was wonderful.

The camp hosts were awesome! We hope they are back next year!!!
