The dark skies were well worth the trip from northern VA. Got lucky with a clear night to see and photograph the Milky Way and Perseids over Spruce Mountain Lake. I can't wait to go back and enjoy some hiking and more dark, starry nights.

Campsite is excellent. Staffer was super friendly and helpful, and low loading allowed us to move further away from loud site. People with obnoxiously loud generator for their camper only reason not 5 star (could be heard throughout the entire campsite). Love this location!

Perfect weekend in one of our favorite campsites! Even at full capacity, everyone was considerate of all the other campers around them. Local manager is AWESOME and well love camping here!

Access is easier if you take the road from South East of Seneca Rocks.

Great campground. Firewood for sale. Camp manager said a bear occasionally comes through the campground. Bear safe trash cans throughout; quite a few vault bathrooms and a water house. Mostly private sites.

At the time of my trip, the campground manager did not have maps of the national forest. However, there werenβt many wrong-turns to make, so we ended up at both Spruce Knob and Seneca Rocks with no problem (both are must-seeβs, and the hike up Seneca Rocks is a doozy)!

Great place to get away, star watching at night around the lake, Spruce Knob, and Seneca Rocks were all fantastic. Make sure to have directions saved prior to getting there, cell service is unreliable.

We had a great stay at Spruce Knob Lake Campground! We stayed at site 41 which had a water spigot conveniently located right at the road, so filling our water bottles was really easy. The bathroom, which was clean and well stocked with toilet paper, was about 50 yards away. The camp manager was very helpful, he recommended hiking trails for us and our dog, and told us about the fireflies in the meadow by the lake that would come out around 9:30-10pm. It was magical! We went to Spruce Knob Lake specifically to see the Milky Way and even though it was cloudy most of the weekend, we lucked out and got to see it one night! There were a handful of stargazers from a local astronomy group who shared information about the night sky, which definitely enhanced our experience. Also, we happened to be there while a gravel bike race was happening, which we thought was really cool. 10/10 would recommend.

One of the best car camping experiences Iβve had!! Spaces are in a wooded area with plenty of privacy. Clean, well maintained, quiet and peaceful. Plenty of hiking options available nearby including a lovely 1-mile walk around Spruce Knob Lake. The camp site is not that easy to get to as it does require traveling partially on dirt roads. You do need to plan to be self-contained.
