We love GTNP! & have camped there many times. I understand that snow lingers there well through May. We brought up our 19 foot airstream to ensure a cozy camping experience for our family. When we arrived our site wasn't cleared enough for the camper to fit. Snowbanks hung into the already small area for our camper to park. It looks like gravel was tossed town to help with mud, and someone must have tried some snow removal? Just not enough to make room for us to actually park. On top of that the fire pit was a swimming pool... the snow was removed from the tent site, but not from preventing a swimming pool in the fire pit area? hard to sell camping on a 2 & 4 year old on snowy camping without the ability to at least have an evening campfire. So so so disappointed. We left. So lucky we live close enough to enjoy the outdoors without such poor conditions. They state "there might be snow on your picnic table"... but they should warn; don't expect to use our fire pits & bring big shovels to clear your own parking spot. Don't just expect snow, expect to take care of it yourself.

Our absolute favorite GTNP campground - opens early May and shower facility is tops. Restaurant, gas station, and gift shop are very convenient for purchases.

The downsides of campsite #70 are that much of it is a bit uneven (although the tent pad is flat and perfectly fine), and that some people think the way to the local restroom is through the campsite itself. The campground as a whole is pretty good: access to private showers, relatively few monster RVs, and very good cell service, in case one needs that. Also, this particular loop doesn't allow generators, which is nice for tent campers.
