About West Tensleep Lake
West Tensleep Lake Campground is located on West Tensleep Lake on the west side of scenic Cloud Peak Skyway, near the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area. The Bighorn National Forest offers a wide variety of activities, including hiking, fishing, scenic driving and a number of historic sites. Beautiful area, love the Cloud Peak Wilderness! The downside of actual campground, mosquitoes were horrible in July, but worst thing was how loud things were. ATVs and motorcycles drive through the campground constantly because this area does not have much for 2 track trails and this campground is their turnaround point. Host was nice but has to watch 4 campgrounds so very little oversight. Many campers were loud along with dogs that wondered from campsite to campsite. Awesome area, but this campground needs to re-evaluate how to operate. Was very disappointed how much noise there was, expected it to be peaceful as this is the wilderness area.

It’s a quaint, quiet campground and the host was very friendly. However, the site we had didn’t have a tent pad. We ended up pitching our tent in the wooded area near the lake. This campground seems better suited for those with a small camper.

This was a perfect camping experience. Thanks to Les, the campground host, who turned an awkward situation into a perfect vacation. His thoughtfulness and sincere concern that campers have happy times was outstanding. I know I am not alone in saying that he is a gracious and attentive host. I hope to return to the Ten Sleep area to camp again and again. My site was clean and spaced nicely from other sites at Island Park campground. The water was not on yet, and that was the only issue that I had. Not a deal-breaker.

We had a wonderful two nights at West Tensleep Lake! Our reserved campsite was just as we expected and we will be returning another year. The campground host was very attentive and kept the bathrooms clean for all the campers. We will return!

Small campground with easy access to the lake and hiking trails. Even though the host stays at a
different campground we saw him a couple times of day making sure everything was maintained including
a clean bathroom.

Getting There
From Worland, Wyoming, take U.S. Highway 16 east 49 mi. Take West Tensleep Road (Forest Road 27) seven miles to campground.

West Tensleep Lake Campground is accessed via U.S. Highway 16, which is approximately 49 miles from Worland, Wyoming.
Policies & Rules
General
- The administering organization reserves the right to substitute sites without prior notice
- Site 9 is a tent-only site with an 18' narrow pull-through parking spur
- Limited space allows for no more than 1-2 (8x10') tents per site
- Larger RVs and trailers cannot be accommodated; Boulder Park Campground is recommended for larger units
- Groups larger than 20 people must camp elsewhere: Willow Park, Hettinger, Ranger Creek Recreation Area or Pine Island offer group camping
- Two non-towed vehicles allowed per site. The first vehicle is included in the basic fee; the second vehicle will be charged an extra $9.00 fee at the campground
- Firewood may be purchased from the campground host.

- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- Refunds: Refund requests made through www.recreation.gov will be charged a $10 processing fee. This fee is retained by the reservation service contractor along with the non-refundable reservation fee. All requests for the return of the non-refundable reservation fee and the cancellation fee will be declined by the campground concessionaire as they did not receive these fees (these are the fees retained by the reservation contractor, a different entity).
