This is the closest cabin, so that makes for easy access. However, maybe due to cabin being used by many skiers and bikers (who have a harder time hauling and gathering firewood) there may be very little firewood when you get there. We found none, which is not how a cabin should be left. In addition, there is very little firewood near the cabin, so without a snow machine you may be out of luck. Bring a few pieces if you can, or cut some dead standing trees when you are getting closer to the cabin and see some...

Cabin was lovely & someone left a bunch of firewood, which is not always the case.

We stayed at the Borealis-Lefevre cabin in the White Mountains. Being in the mountains was as soul-restoring as ever. We arrived in a snow storm, and broke trail the entire 20 miles. We took our snow machines out and cut a bunch of wood for us and others from the burn-area the following day and cranked up the stove. Regrettably this cabin does not have a woodshed. Be sure to bring at least the first night's firewood with you. Its a beautiful place, and a mostly unchallenging well-travelled trail. The aufeis was quite manageable. It was a great experience.

Richard's cabin was lovely - definitely a colder cabin being right next to the river but gorgeous setting being in the tall trees, and a plethora of good firewood from the old burn around the cabin. The wood stove takes a while to warm up but it stays warm when it gets there! The cabin could do with a big pot for melting snow - it was a little bit of a struggle with the big tub and kettles. A saw horse would be a great addition too.

Cabin was large enough for 3 kids and 2 adults. Cabin was clean. A BLM crew member was at the cabin when we arrived doing some tidying up. Thankfully, he had just plowed the access road leading up to the cabin.
Temps were around -18 deg. F during our 24 hour stay.
Our only issue was the lantern that is provided. It lit for about 10 minutes then it did not operate properly after that. We tried 3 separate times to get it working to no avail.
After we got home, I looked up the lantern on-line. It appears it requires a very different mantle than the typical tie on or clip on ones. This could be the source of the problem, but I think there is something else wrong with it. Also, looking back in the cabin log book, the lantern seems to be the one problem everyone has.
You'll be happy to know that the Alaska State Troopers (AST) often stop by and check the cabin (and sign the log book) too.
Coming from Fairbanks, you will lose cell service about half way there.

Love Wolf Run Cabin. It's in a beautiful setting and trail is awesome right now for fat biking. Definitely worth going to this cabin.
