Located on central Arizona's largest lake, Windy Hill offers great water recreation opportunities to the public. Because of its close proximity to the Lake, Windy Hill allows fishing, non-motorized and motorized boating, along with hiking trails. There are plenty of developed campsites available at Windy Hill, which allows for an easy, quick escape during any time of the year for families and individuals.

When we arrived at our reserved campsite there was a class-A motor home in our spot. Apparently, the owner didn't see the reservation listed at the site. The camp host asked them to move, which they did. After that we were able to enjoy our site, which was quite spacious with nice views. I enjoyed some astrophotography under the clear skies nearby. There were also a variety of birds and other wildlife, such as coyotes in the mornings and evenings. You can walk down to the lake via a small trail, but the area near shore has heavy submerged brush, so fishing isn't easy here. It's nice for a walk and view of the lake though. Also watched a blue heron perched on the sticks.
Coati Loop has the best tent sites in all of Windy Hill. Sites are separated and have fine views of the lake. Mike, the host keeps the grounds looking wonderful and natural. He trims the White Thorn Acacias back from the roadways so that they don't snag walkers and bicyclists. The restrooms are functional and well stocked and now that the showers have a new water heater, they are pleasant to use although the room temperature can be cold in the Winter. Mike takes his job personally and greets us all!
Well maintained camp grounds. Depending on your site you will have a short walk from your car. Visited Tonto National Monument during this stay - highly recommend!
David, the camp host, is a wonderful person. We really enjoyed staying here. The campsite was really clean as were the bathrooms, though we didn’t need them. There are mirrors in those bathrooms, whoever needs to hear that. The only negative thing I would say is that there is no good fishing unless you have a boat. There are trees and shrubs everywhere from the shore. Our lines kept getting snagged. I wish we had known that but it was an enjoyable experience overall.
Camp host Mike at Coati Windy Hill was wonderful. He makes the rounds several times a day even bringing firewood to some folks. Keeps the bathroom shiny clean. and gave us a lot of good information on where to go and what to see. We were very happy.
