Tomkins Bend is our favorite place to camp. The sites are great. The camp hosts are friendly. It is so peaceful there. If you desire to see wildlife, you just need to look around. There are plenty of Pileated Woodpeckers and I have even managed to get pictures of some of them. Something that I have not been able to do elsewhere. There is a small herd of deer that hang around the campground. There are about 10. You just have to walk the loops and keep your eyes peeled to see them. This place can not be beat!

I spent 4 nights in mid-December 2020 with my tent in site 39. I was the only person in the park the first two days. Site 39 is very large and right on the water. The ground was soft and easy to drive tent stakes. Several trees throughout the park but not filled with overgrown underbrush. Electricity worked well, however, the water tap at the site had been turned off for the season. The restroom/showers were clean. Unfortunately, the hot water went out on my third day. This was the only restroom/shower open at the park. The camp host was nice and responsive. I can imagine during peak season the bathhouse could get crowded. Really a beautiful park and site. The inner loop C sites were very close together and small.

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful campground. The individual campsite water spigots were shut off for the winter but we had plenty in our fresh water tank. The Vista trail is just a short walk from the campgrounds and is well worth hiking it. A boat ramp is available for access to Ouachita Lake for boating and fishing. We highly recommend Tompkins Bend and hope to return someday.

Excellent place to camp. We had a great time. The middle spots can be a little cramped so something to keep in mind.

Excellent stay, as it was our second stay. We spent the Thanksgiving Holiday this year. We had some power issues, but guys working for the COE came out and serviced the post on Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. Many thanks to their service. We love this CG and will be back soon!
