What Guests Are Saying
Old Shady Rest Campground offers a pleasant and well-maintained environment with spacious, level sites suitable for both tents and RVs. Its convenient location near town and various recreational activities adds to its appeal, while friendly hosts enhance the overall experience. Some minor drawbacks include occasional noise from nearby roads and the presence of ants, but these do not detract significantly from the campground's charm and cleanliness.

Mike was the BEST host. He made our stay easy and he was so friendly. We hope he will be back when we return next year!

This was an ok campground. Bathrooms were clean. We were woke up at 7am to the sounds of dozens of chainsaws, non-stop for 3 hours. We packed up and left, the chainsaws continued. I will not be back.

Inquired of host about available spot. I suspect host was intoxicated. Yelling and annoyed when i knocked on his doir. Rudely responded to my request even though there was an unoccupied tag on the site. Ni one came to occupy the site. Bathrooms were FILTHY.

Old Shady Rest Campground is quiet, peaceful, and shady. This was a bit surprising because it is so close to the shopping and restaurants in Mammoth Lakes. We walked to dinner and to the Grocery Outlet store. The sites are spacious and almost flat, so tents and RVs have plenty of room.

Closed trails and roads were a nuisance. Rec.gov appropriately warned us ahead of time. Upkeep of facilities has deteriorated significantly in the past couple of years.

Beautiful camp ground with lots of trees located close to town. Walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants, breweries and coffee. Easy drives to fabulous hiking and fishing.

We were in site #3, it would make a great tent site but not a trailer site. It says it can accommodate a 32ft trailer, ours was 21 and barely fit and there was a large slope to the pad. The campground is nice and clean, as are the bathrooms. If you do not put your things in the bear box, the bears will come and if they think they can get free food at these campsites, they will become brave and will be put down..... SO people.... put your food in the bear boxes!!! 1 motorhome left their ice chests out over night, the bear came, another tent camper went away for the day and left their food out, the bear came. Protect Mammoth's bears and follow instructions and use the Bear Box!!!
