Nice little campground. Freeway is a little loud but you get used to it. I would go back again.

We had a great visit. I can see the road noise being loud if you are in a tent but it wasn’t an issue for us. It was convenient to lots of things we were interested in.

Yea the freeway is close and you’ll hear some noise but it was worth it. The campground was clean, and many of the sites have a lot of bushes/trees for privacy. Unfortunately it was cold the weekend I went so we didn’t get to swim but I’m looking forward to coming back.

This campground is RIGHT NEXT TO the freeway. The noise is assaulting. We had a sight within 50 yards of the freeway and could see and hear cars flying by all night long. It felt unsafe and was incredibly disruptive to our sleep.

The location is beautiful, right beside the Yuba River,
but the highway noise is constant and loud.
Ear phones are required.

Clean, well kept. One of my favorite campgrounds. Great swimming access. Sites are big and spread out. Mostly enclosed and private.

This is on the loop closest to the freeway, so there is a lot of freeway noise. Since it was constant, it didn’t bother us much (we considered it like white noise, similar to a constant roar of a waterfall). The site is fairly large, with a lot of shade. Since it’s not on the water’s edge, getting to it without walking through someone else’s camp was a little challenge (through some bushes over a rotted log under a fallen tree to a trail, or short walk up Hampshire Rocks Rd then over some rocks.). Wear water shoes when in the water, the rocks are slick. Bathrooms were some of the cleanest and best smelling vault toilets I have ever seen, and right next to the site.

The campground was lovely and uncrowded, the river was very pretty, and the vault toilets were clean. Unfortunately, there is no where in the campground to escape the unrelenting and very loud freeway noise from hwy. 80. It goes on 24/7 and is so intense that my husband and I couldn't hear each other unless we raised our voices. There is also the sound of Amtrak trains on the tracks, but that was minor compared to the highway. Earplugs only muffled the noise in our tent at night. (Maybe in an RV or a trailer the noise would be acceptable.) We spent 2 nights and skipped our last night. I'd say only stay at Hampshire Rocks if you have no other option. For us, it was not a pleasant experience. We renamed it, "I Can't Hear You! Campground."

Beautiful area and found a small spot to enjoy the river. Clear and clean campground.
However, you're in very close proximity to the other camp sites and VERY close to the freeway. Not a restful evening at all unfortunately. Be warned. The 80 is LOUD. All night.

Absolutely beautiful site. Sites on the side closest to the 80 can have a lot of noise from the road.

From Truckee, Calif., take Highway 80 west 17 miles. Take the Rainbow/Big Bend exit. If westbound, turn left under the freeway to the campground entrance. If eastbound, turn right at the stop sign.
