What Guests Are Saying
Union Flat offers a beautiful, quiet campsite with lovely tree coverage and proximity to the Yuba River, ideal for relaxation. However, some sites can feel crowded due to nearby mining groups and noise from Hwy 49 and mountain bikers. Notably, there is currently no potable water on-site, which can be a significant drawback for campers.

Lots of loud bikers partying all night. It's great if you like campers next to you playing music till 3am.

Clean, convenient facilities, and very nice to be able to dip our feet in the river after a long day of riding.

Great location, my second time staying here. Nothing like going to sleep with the sound of a river 30 feet away.

I always love camping at Union Flat. Ive been camping there for over 28 years. I am disappointed with your reservation system portal. First the map is wrong. The pictures associated with some sites are wrong. Also its disappointing that you dropped more Fcfs sites. (Down to 1) however even with the messed up online reservation system, its always good to stay at Union Flat.

The biggest problem with this campground is the element of insiders controlling who camps here and what sites they have. I was very specific when booking sites in January (2020) because I knew we needed two adjacent sites for our group of 9 people (we have camped at Indian Valley for years) and so I was very familiar with the campground. Imagine my surprise when we arrived to find that site #4 seemed to be missing, site #6 was in its place, and the sites we had reserved had been shuffled. By the other campers? By the group of "mining claim" people who had taken over the sites at the far end of the loop? Who knows... what was clear was that the mining people (and most of the campers in the campground) all knew each other and, to my dismay, it seemed that the shuffling of the campsite numbers was done with the approval (?) of the forest service. All that said, people were very respectful and we did not feel any negative vibes from the other campers, although the forest service people did hassle us about where our tent was pitched (apparently they didn't care that the site numbers had been shuffled...) We will not be going back to this campground, although the location is beautiful and the sites we did book and were able to secure (by dint of rearranging the campground site numbers to their proper locations) were lovely. We camped here in July. It took me a long time to decide to write this review, but I think it is important that unsuspecting campers know what they are getting into when they book here.

In accordance with standard industry practices, we will be assessing a $5 additional vehicle fee on the 'second vehicle' in each single family campsite, and on the 'third and fourth vehicle' in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles. |
