What Guests Are Saying
Union Flat offers a beautiful location near the Yuba River, with clean bathrooms and pleasant tree cover, making it a lovely spot for relaxation. However, some sites, especially near Highway 49, experience noise from traffic and late-night mountain bikers, leading to a crowded atmosphere. Additionally, the lack of potable water and limited cell service were notable downsides for visitors.

The biggest problem with this campground is the element of insiders controlling who camps here and what sites they have. I was very specific when booking sites in January (2020) because I knew we needed two adjacent sites for our group of 9 people (we have camped at Indian Valley for years) and so I was very familiar with the campground. Imagine my surprise when we arrived to find that site #4 seemed to be missing, site #6 was in its place, and the sites we had reserved had been shuffled. By the other campers? By the group of "mining claim" people who had taken over the sites at the far end of the loop? Who knows... what was clear was that the mining people (and most of the campers in the campground) all knew each other and, to my dismay, it seemed that the shuffling of the campsite numbers was done with the approval (?) of the forest service. All that said, people were very respectful and we did not feel any negative vibes from the other campers, although the forest service people did hassle us about where our tent was pitched (apparently they didn't care that the site numbers had been shuffled...) We will not be going back to this campground, although the location is beautiful and the sites we did book and were able to secure (by dint of rearranging the campground site numbers to their proper locations) were lovely. We camped here in July. It took me a long time to decide to write this review, but I think it is important that unsuspecting campers know what they are getting into when they book here.

Beautiful campground right on the river. Road 93 right across the highway provides miles of off roading adventure as well.

First time and will definitely be back. Beautiful little spot to camp along the river. Bathrooms were clean and garbage was taken care of. Mostly quiet and peaceful. 6 miles to downieville and 6 miles to Sierra city. Only gas as of my trip in July 2020 was a small pump at Bassetts. They have 87 and 91 octane. No diesel.

This site is Loud and the people that stay are mostly Mt. Bikers that like to party into the early morning! It's next to highway, and plenty of stragglers seem to roam the area. No Cell service. If you don't like to sleep this is the site for you!

This is a great place to camp by the river. The campground is well kept. The Camping sites are mostly small so for larger campers, RV's it would be a tight fit at most sights. There are A couple of Group sites here and they are large enough to accommodate a fairly large number. There are also a few 2-4 larger sites where you might fit an RV. There are no electrical hook ups here. Vault toilets are pretty well maintained. We had a great time here although pretty hot in August.

It was HORRIBLE!! Campground was full of rude, obnoxious, loud, offensive, and disgusting Clampers! They threatened us, because we didn't want them walking through our campsite, so we packed up and left after one night. They had the nuts to clap and cheer as we left with three rigs. I will never, ever go back to Union Flat. Period!!

Beautiful campsite right on the Yuba river outside of Downieville. Campsite if pretty close to the road, but all in all an amazing spot. Would be a great place to camp if you are mountain biking Downieville or wanting to fish the Yuba.

The campsite at Union Flat was clean and enjoyable. The Rangers were always friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to returning when the weather warms.
