Beautiful night to spend here in late October. Just my dog and I and the host! Sites are well spaced but no bushes so no privacy but the open oak land with the grass coming in was tranquil and as long as no partiers it could be ok. There is water in the reservoir now too. Maintained trails, nice boat area and playground. The bathroom could use some TLC.

The Lake was empty but lots of wildlife to view. However the bathroom with the shower were extremely dirty. There was excrement on the floor of the men's restroom the entire time we were there.

We were here on a very dry October weekend, the lake was quite low but we were not here for water recreation, we were on a weekend bicycle tour. Our campsites were very roomy and fairly clean. Some previous campers had left a bit of micro garbage which we picked up and disposed of. The hot showers are great! We love camping at Buckhorn Campground and have been since Black Butte Lake was built in the 1960's!

The lake was extremely low while we were there so there were fewer campers and more solitude. The wildlife was spectacular! The waterfowl were abundant, particularly white pelicans. We also so a red-tailed hawk just miss catching a jack rabbit. Coyotes howled at night and deer were like household pets throughout the campground. The five days we were there the weather was exceptional (October 6th through the 10th) with temperatures in the mid 70's during the day.

Lake low. Good overnight stop. Bathrooms could use some work.

Reservations are required in advance, you can't select a site and pay at Buckhorn, which I am not happy about.

it was our first visit at Black Butte. There is a gorgeous lake with the same name great for fishing. the whole area is beautiful, rolling hills with oaks, black buffs overlooking the lake. the night sky was carpeted with stars and almost no light pollution. I am definitely coming back and will explore the trails and fishing.
