What Guests Are Saying

Tannery Campground offers a beautiful setting with well-maintained facilities, clean bathrooms, and spacious campsites, making it a great spot for families and friends to create lasting memories. Guests enjoyed the scenic lake, ample shade from trees, and activities like boating. However, some reviewers noted issues with unhelpful staff, disruptive noise from other campers, and the need for better communication regarding water quality and amenities. Overall, it’s a recommended destination with some areas for improvement.

The camp host was absolutely horrible. She called the cops numerous times on many people for not paying their extra car payment. Which was already paid and receipts were shown to her. She told some teenagers to pay the fee and they did. She then put the money directly into her pocket. The camp ground looked horrible, there were tree tops laying in the campsites. All they did was take a leaf blower and blow all of the pine needles and sticks into piles just away from the campfire. A friend was burning this debris and she came by and told him to stop because he was being reckless with his fire. She truly made the trip a hassle and we couldn't relax because we were afraid that we were going to get the cops called on us.

We had a HORRIBLE experience at our 4 night stay at Tannery. The camp host was very rude, aggressive, and verbally abusive. She approached my kids and made them pay her for parking and refused to give them a tag for their vehicles (showing proof of payment). When I realized that she was aggressively confronting my kids, I joined the conversation and she was extremely rude and verbally abusive to them and refused to answer any of my questions. When asked what the issue was, she continued to yell and say that we were going to be banned from the campground for fraud. She was asked her to return the kids money and she refused. She informed us that she was going to call the cops on us , which she did. She then went around the camp loop and continued to harass other campers. When the Forest Service Law Enforcement officer came to Tannery to speak with us and another family, he was shocked at the attitude and behavior of the camp host. He let us know that if we were unhappy with the camp host that we should let her employer know. He returned some of the money that my kids had paid to her. This behavior continued on through the entire weekend with even 13 calls made to the Sheriffs Office in one day! The camp host also has a young child that is left unattended and wanders through the campground alone. He wandered into our campsite numerous times, being found inside a families trailer eating their food. Another family was given a "ticket" asking for payment for parking when he had already shown proof of payment with an email receipt. The camp host refused to honor the receipt and he was told that reserving on Recreation.gov is wrong. We have been camping at Tannery for over 10 years and have never had this problem! We will be finding a different location to enjoy our vacation at Trinity Lake! I hope that the Forest Service and Shasta Recreation can fix this issue as it wrecked several local families weekend.

The campground is beautiful. And we love camping at tannery. The camp host was extremely grumpy and when she had an issue she wouldn’t speak with an adult.. she would only speak with my children or their friends … and that really bothered us.

The road way is so over grown that the two lane is reduced to one lane of clearance. There are several dead trees in camp, RED, and then broken tops in the campsites. The host did not collect the parking fees daily, instead attacked the teens that were camping with adults, and demanded money from the teens for her claim that they owed for 3 days of fees. Several of the teens had only been there one day, yet she wanted 3 days worth of fees. When the adults approached her about it, she got defensive and then called the local sheriff, because we were a problem. She called the SO two days in a row, regarding the fees that she claimed the teens owed her. IF the fee posting was clear and visible the teens would have paid, daily. HAD she done her job daily, then she would have accurate information of fees owed. She claimed that we should have not registered on this site, Recreation.gov, but with her directly, and paid for our second vehicle with her. If we had waited to register with her, we would not have had a campsite. Seemed odd to have us pay her anything, we do not trust that she had accurate information and that the fees were going to the correct spot. In addition, her child "Ranger" ran wild through the campsites, helping himself to peoples camps, trailers and such. We are part of a LARGE group, we will be camping at a new location next year that the Tannery camp host is not at. VERY disappointed.
