What Guests Are Saying

Tannery Campground offers a beautiful setting with well-maintained facilities, clean bathrooms, and spacious campsites, making it a great spot for families and friends to create lasting memories. Guests enjoyed the scenic lake, ample shade from trees, and activities like boating. However, some reviewers noted issues with unhelpful staff, disruptive noise from other campers, and the need for better communication regarding water quality and amenities. Overall, it’s a recommended destination with some areas for improvement.

The campground was very clean and the restrooms were stocked with TP and also very clean. The spot says 40’ max RV but it was a real struggle to get my 28’ travel trailer in. Just be aware of this when booking the site. Overall the site is well shaded and pretty level.

We visited here in July, pulling a 33' trailer from Minnesota. Originally we had site 23 reserved, which claimed to accommodate up to 40'. The road is very tight and backing into the site was problematic. Thankfully the campground host, Hauva, magically appeared and offered to move us into another easier to maneuver campground space. Although the lake is lower than hoped for the area is filled with magnificent tree growth and scenic beauty. The bugs (compared to Minnesota) were quite manageable and we had several nice campfires amidst warm, temperate evenings. There is a pickup with wood for sale as you drive into Weaverville, easily the highest quality firewood we procured over our two months on the road. The History museum and the Joss House State historic park (the oldest Chinese temple in California) were real gems to be discovered during our visits to Weaverville. The Trinity Alps were magnificent and we look forward to returning soon. Take care Hauva, you are one of the many guardian angels we encountered during our 8000 mile trip! :-}

My friend that chose the site forgot that some lakes dry up in the summer and was very disappointed that his lakefront campsite wasn't so lakefront, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the view. I didn't use the bathrooms but I was told they were decently clean. The only downside was the water had a boil advisory.

Tannery is a beautiful campground where we have camped in the past. This July, we arrived to discover there is no potable (drinkable) water and there has not been any since May, following a positive coliform test. We were not informed of this prior to making the reservations. But notes taped in the bathrooms ask campers to "get the word out." Had we known, we would have camped elsewhere or brought our own water.

I don't think it is the sole responsibility of campers to get the word out that there is no water in a campground. If we were warned, I apologize but we did not see it.

It would be better if the middle (40's) loop had bear cabinets. The lake was very low this year. Nothing we can do about that except let less water out.
