Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins (CA)

Really enjoyed the place, the employees and the experience. Kendal was really great!

Cabin was good, heater worked and we had space in the 2 room cabin, online mentioned that a lantern was included but we didn’t have one, we brought our owns then no problem. The cabin had a smell of strong cleaning products that we didn’t like

Lassen NP was great - 5 stars for the park! The cabins at Manzanita lake however are not so great. We arrived around 7pm the first night and on entering were almost knocked over by the strong smell of cleaning products. Then we noticed that the main bed in the first room was literally wet with small pools of cleaning product all over it. We had to open windows to air out the cabin and get paper towels from the restroom to remove the excess cleaning solution. By then it was dusk and starting to cool down so we thought about turning on the heater, which is when we discovered that the built in wall heater was not working. In place of the heater there was a portable propane heater. We lit the propane heater and let it run for about 2 hours to take the chill off, but did not feel safe sleeping with it and having the fumes build up inside the cabin so we turned it off. The second night the heater wouldn't light at all - the fuel bottle was empty but we couldn't find the camp host to get a refill. The last issue with the cabin was that the window blind on the front door was in such bad shape that it was literally just a few panels hanging on the cords - virtually no coverage on the window.
If we were to visit again we would pitch a tent in one of the other campgrounds instead. We made the best of it, but the cabin was not a pleasant place to stay.

Our cabin was in a great location. We loved being next to the lake. The cabin was comfortable and we liked the porch. The instructions about what was available and what to bring were very helpful.

Lassen NP is huge. We spent several days exploring but also spent time at Lake Manzanita. The cabins are close to the lake with the furthest still only a few minutes walk away.
The lake is beautiful and allows swimming, fishing (with restrictions), and kayaking. Our family rented a kayak onsite which was fun. There were also paddle boards available.
The host for the campsite are very accommodating so be sure to mention if there are any issues. For example the heater in our cabin was broken but they let us borrow a Buddy heater.
The bathroom had issues for repair and the gas station was out of service when we tried to use it but otherwise the area seemed well maintained.
The bear box was large enough to fit our cooler and other bags. And each campfire ring is huge. We had a great time!

Cabins are very clean, functional and can sleep up to 7 in the bunks! There is no power and no water so bring a battery to recharge things. The cabins are definitely preferable to driving outside of the park each day and are close to the store and showers. The camp store has an excellent snack bar and friendly staff.

The cabins were a lot nicer than I expected. The bathrooms always were clean as well and the personal I interacted with were helpful and pleasant.

We had a great time. My only complaint is the description says a lantern is included. No lantern is included. So make sure you bring one from home. I love that the store has a barista. We were able to eat breakfast at the cabin, then grab a coffee and hit the trails.

Week prior was able to grab this 1-night spot. Made everything easy to get away and explore the stunning Lassen Volcano area- there was a queen size bed frame with not uncomfortable mattress, side tables w dim-ish plastic lanterns, rugs, close-able windows, and a handmade ice chest. The large canvas tent was on a ADA compliant deck. Pit toilets near by and flushable toilets (and sinks) a bit further but easily reachable. Store opened at 8 and had a little kitchen, some grocery foods, and souvenirs. Everyone was lovely. No electricity or plumbing in tent (obviously). There were two lovely wood lounge chairs and a metal fire pit. I will post some pictures of the tent if I can and will post on yelp too if I can’t post pics here.
-1 star only because should actually be cheaper than cabins, not more
