Very peaceful campsite area not crowded like the several ones we drove past. Site 40 very close to the restroom. Several bear sightings especially at night please dont be afraid of them, it's natural and just keep your food where you're supposed to keep them. Cant wait to come back

We stayed in site #10 & behind this site is a trail that's a short cut to Camp Richardson Beach. People walk thru your site at all times of the day & evening. Kids on bikes, adults with kids in wagons, large groups of teenagers. Please change the route or block off the trail. It's very annoying. I'd never stay in that site again.

Site 74 was more private than other sites. Plenty of space and shade. Despite signs put in place by campground, we had a number of people walking through our site to get to the beach. Some apologised, some didn’t. Bears were active throughout our stay. For such a large campground there were not many toilets/taps. But overall, woukd stay here again, less than 5 minutes walk to the beach.

It was clean! Easy to set everything up! Very comfortable and safe camp! Super close to the town! Very good ice cream and coffee shop around it.

This is a party camp with no one enforcing quiet hours and no camp host. There is a security guard that passes through, but not nearly enough and he seems more concerned with the bear activity, which is pretty high since the majority of people don’t know how to lock up their food. I will say that during the day, the camp rangers do a good job of emptying the garbages and trying to dissuade the bears from entering the camp, but it’s pretty much constant air-horns, car alarms, people yelling at the bears, and then drunken antics all night long. The road is too close to camp so you can hear the traffic driving by and you never feel like you are fully out in the woods. The camp sites have very little privacy from one another too. With all the lights from cars, other camps, and the bathroom, it never got dark enough to use our lanterns or flashlights. And the bathroom has one electrical outlet, which basically just meant that teenagers would take turns charging their cell phones in the bathroom 24/7 and set up their own hang-out right outside the bathroom doors.
The good things about this location were the close proximity to the lake, it’s a great place to ride bikes, there’s a cool ice cream shop and general store, so lots to do, but don’t plan on getting much sleep and don’t come here if you like sharing spaces with inconsiderate human beings. Driving around the camp loop at night barking like a dog and blowing an air horn for no reason, blasting music from giant speakers, people cutting through your camp site at all hours of the night talking loudly…yup- that was our experience.

Campsite has a lot of great amenities, but overall it was just okay. The bathroom were some of the worst I’ve ever experienced and we camp a lot. Most of my complaints were with the other campers who do not bother to follow any of the rules about bears and leave their campsites unattended with food everywhere and dump all their trash in the bathroom instead of the bear bins. This part is not the campsites fault but the bathrooms were so bad that I ended up using porta potties at the start of hikes instead.

The bear problem continues to worsen. Among the three bears that consistently pester campers, one is particularly aggressive and may require bear spray.

Wonderful place to stay, close to the beach, parks and Fallen Leaf Lake. If you don't mind no privacy between campsites this is a great place to enjoy what South Lake has to offer.
