Great campground and great campground host

Excellent location and site employees!

We were in Site 50. The site was clean and relatively private…except for locals short-cutting through our site on their way to the beach or back to their vehicles parked on Elks Point Road.

Great venue

We had an active construction site immediately behind our site. Also, cars and trucks driving in and back out of the park entrance all the time. Overall, its a great location on Tahoe but getting the right site is key and hard.

Would have rated higher but no lights in a bathroom and no showers

I’ve been going there for 31 summers now. Great to have soap this time in the bathrooms! Everything was well maintained, including the bathrooms and staff was very kind and helpful. Hoping for a site again next summer.
Trying to get a site is very very difficult took us two months to get our site of every day trying. Being camped there I do not understand how there can be so many empty sites showing one morning I counted 17 empty/unoccupied sites. I did call recreation.gov. They had no idea. Campground host just tell you oh people are coming their reserved or some people have canceled and haven’t gotten a hold of them but to have 17 sites an occupied at once something’s wrong there. Especially when it’s so difficult to get into and everything says it is booked solid including the representative at rec.gov. This is a bit frustrating.

After being threatened with the sheriff and fines and being blacklisted and kicked out of the campground because I didn’t back in my motorhome, because my campsite was on the side where my door was so I pulled in and that’s when it all started. The host stated that all vehicles must back in even if my table, bear box, fire pit, barbecue were on the other side. This policy only affects motorhomes where we have the option of backing in or pulling in to take advantage of the camping experience. And their reasons were for safety of pedestrians because backing out you might run them over, in my 50 years of camping I’ve never heard of anyone being run over maybe a rock a post but no pedestrians. And their other reason was evacuation that a motorhome backing out wood block traffic well if that’s true then they should limit the size of trailers and fifth wheels because their tow vehicle blocks the road while they hook up, which takes more time than motorhome backing out. Recently, I’ve found this policy to be true in some other campgrounds and it doesn’t make sense and Recreation.gov should do something about it. It’s not necessary and it’s an overreach. I was in the fire service for over 32 years and, Let’s face it. Any evacuation is going to be slow and backed up, just simply by the size of the vehicles and the small roads in and out, so their policy doesn’t fit.

This year it was quiet and fewer campers. The staff is always around and checking sites.

I used to love this campground, specifically site #23. However, there is a new beach resort right next to the campsite. The lights are glaring at night and they left their ambient club music on the entire night. It was extremely disappointing. I still love the proximity to the beach and to south lake. I just didn’t appreciate being that close to a resort. Maybe another site further away would be better?
