We stayed in suite 53, which overlooked the tops of Grant Grove! Right from the tent we could see Gen Sherman. This campground was recently repaved and the sites near us, in the fifties, were meant for trailers. The bathroom is near the entrance and the tent sites, so a late night number two is about a quarter mile walk uphill from here unless you drive. We were really close to 54 and 55, which are on top of each other - the fire rings are 10' apart. The hostess said they don't let 54 out except for overflow. We ended up using the bear box for 54 for drink storage. Spacious site except it goes downhill quickly, hence the great view of the trees. Quiet overall.

Shade was hard to come by. Tent pad location was unclear. Bearbox was generous in size so we were able to get everything in. Water from the restroom faucet came out in a weak stream making it difficult to wash hands.

When I booked I wasn't able to book 2 nights at the same campsite, so I decided to use 2 different campsites for the 2 nights.
This site is quite leveled view and surrounding is very nice. Wood is avalaible to harvest very close to the site.
The trail to General Gra't is very close to this site, just get down the hill, and you're on your way.
Temperature during summer is very comfortable!!!
And shade is very pleasant.
The minus is cellular network that is nearly non existant.
I wold stay again if I could.

We loved being close to the restrooms.
We also loved viewing squirrels during breakfast.

PROS: It's centrally located with lots of great trails and sights nearby.

CONS: Yes, it was summer and there are kids and more noise than other times of the year. Expected and not at all an issue for me. I actually enjoy the sounds of families having fun, and I get my solitude on the trails. What was an issue were the campers who decided it was fine to blast their crappy music over loudspeakers for the rest of the campground to endure. Numerous people complained (I wasn't one of them... I'm trying to chill and noise cancelling earbuds are a Godsend). Finally, after quite a bit of time had passed a Park Ranger showed up and gave them a warning. Didn't help much... the "music" came down a bit but not much. Camp managers seriously didn't hear it? Or they just don't care? So I've got to dock some points for less-than-optimal campground management.

Upon arrival to our reserved site shortly after 6:00PM, we found that it was occupied by other campers who were nowhere to be found.
We were unable to locate Park Rangers or campground host. Visitor center and front gate were closed. Nearby lodge, gift shop and market staff attempted to help, said it happens frequently and to find an empty site for the night and figure things out in the morning.
Wound up setting up in random empty site not knowing if we were taking someone else’s reserved space in the dark.
Next morning, campground host identified themselves, spoke to people occupying our reserved site with Park Ranger and had them move.
We then had to break down our other site and set up again in our reserved site, which was incredibly inconvenient. Worst part was that they left behind several places with used toilet paper, which we wound up removing (so gross)!
Once we settled into our site, it really was one of the best tent sites there. Was rather private and was visited by 3 very curious bucks/deer.
I would recommend this campground, but there needs to be better oversight of the reservations people invest a lot of time planning in addition to enforcing campground rules.
