This was our second visit to site #4. The trees provide shade and privacy and there is a nice flat spot for a large tent. Deer come through the site through a game trail they’ve made.

Nice Campground. It was our rescue because our original booked Campground (Stony Creek Sequoia) was not to reach because of an landslide. So we had no other chance.

Ok I'd like to tell everyone it was horrible just to keep this gem hidden, but honestly it was fantastic. The spots we were in with our friends (29-31) were isolated enough we didn't have anyone around but were close enough for a short hike to the bathroom. There were definitely some other good spots too that were for single families or small groups. There was good shade which kept it cool on the 90+ degree days, but the bear boxes turned into ovens vaporizing our ice as they heated up in the direct sunlight. Might be a little short for a trailer, but great spots to pitch a tent or go rooftop. All the other usual camping stuff: lots of bugs, lots of dirt...definitely bring something to wash off with, clean bathrooms, bear locked trash, but an exceptional location. The last part is the real emphasis...it's perfectly centered and right across from one of the major attractions. Then one day you can go north along the scenic highway and check out Coyote falls and Hume Lake, both easily accessible. Then another day you can head south to some of the more popular sites and bigger crowds...at least when we were there it was significantly different from the crowds the day before. Ok hope that helps...happy camping!

Great Campground with lots of space and shade. Can be pretty crowded though.

Beautiful site with plenty of privacy. The kids loved playing on a large log at the back of the site. Site is slightly inclined although this did not impact our ability to sleep comfortably in the tent. Water faucet is very close.
Ranger/camp host was nowhere to be seen, which is fine by me. Surprisingly, the campground didn't fill up on this summer weekend. Campground was dead quiet on Thursday night. On Friday night, some noisy youths moved into the group site about 200 feet away, but they quieted down around 11pm.
Nearby trail leads to the General Grant tree and surrounding grove or scenic Panoramic Point. Overall, it was a lovely experience and we will be happy to come back to this campground.

Loud groups after 10 pm with no site host to enforce rules

I stayed at site 1, not too far from bathrooms so wasn't terrible to walk to them, 1-2 minutes. The one thing to consider about this site is that it's not very secluded, you are next to 2 other people/sites and to not see each other you'd have to position your tent in a weird way.

This campground is in a quieter part of the parks and well located to explore both Kings Canyon and Sequoia. It was a self check in experience as there is no entry booth or CG host to check you in. My first night, there were several campsites near me booked by a large group. They were celebrating a birthday and the music, laughing and shrieking went on until after 11 pm. I was uncomfortable (as a solo female camper) in approaching the group to ask them to get quiet. There was no ranger or host to go to for assistance, and there is no cell service for ATT in that area.
My 2nd night the large group was gone and I had a great night's sleep. The bathrooms were clean and the sites are well maintained.

Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki. Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible. Falling Objects- Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger. A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets. |
