What Guests Are Saying
Sheep Creek Campground offers a beautiful and private setting with clean facilities and friendly park personnel. It's an ideal spot for exploring the Kings River area, with spacious campsites and abundant free firewood. While there are some concerns about wildlife and theft, many guests highly recommend the campground for relaxation and nature experiences.

My campsite was very nice. Be aware that many of the campsites are on a slope or crowded together. Some have no
room for a tent. This summer there were a large number of multigenerational groups, each crammed into one campsite.
If you are a single tent group, consider that there may be tent overflow onto your site from up to three sides.
Choose your site carefully!
The campground was relatively quiet during my stay. Little enforcement of campground rules. No campground hosts.
(Vehicles parked off paved pads/ food left out/people washing up in river/used bbqs left out/even a mid morning bonfire!)
Some of this may be due to COVID, as the campgrounds were closed last year.

No showers made it unacceptable
Fire restriction was tolerable reservation system good
Campground in great shape but roadwork noise was not good
There should be a roadwork notice of dates that could be avoided

Wonderful campground, beautiful and peaceful, you can soak your feet in Kings River during the day and hear it at night.

Great spot to set up camp. Cool evenings with the huge overhead of trees. Right on the Kings River and an easy set up to get down. I'd recommend bringing your bike to ride over to the village nearby. Showers are indeed closed down for the season. The drive up from Sequoia National Park is tremendous and the views from within this Canyon are fantastic. There is some construction going on nearby Sheep Creek, seemed to only be between late morning to early evening.

Great campground near the river. There's a good amount of shade and the camp store and ranger talks are within a short walk.

Great location, right next to the river but it is an hour from the other main attractions. That is the only drawback.

I love Sheep Creek. I have been going there for over 50 years and feel a bit protective of it... But, the park service can only blame so much on the pandemic. First, the bathrooms were the filthiest I have EVER seen a National Park bathroom. Obviously not being cleaned AT ALL. Hey, don't open a campground 100% if you have no ability to maintain it. Second, there was a campfire ban in the campground. We, sadly, observed that ban. However, 1/4 the campground did not. And, the rangers were driving through, ignoring the campfires, not even getting out of their truck. Really?
Kings Canyon WAS hot, but there is much river to cool in. BUT, National Park Service, you are not taking care of my park!!!

.Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki. Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible. Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger. A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets. |
