What Guests Are Saying
Sheep Creek Campground offers a beautiful and private setting with clean facilities and friendly park personnel. It's an ideal spot for exploring the Kings River area, with spacious campsites and abundant free firewood. While there are some concerns about wildlife and theft, many guests highly recommend the campground for relaxation and nature experiences.

Really great campground. Half of it was closed off but bathroom facilities were pretty clean and adequate. Bear lockers in good condition. Campsites were nicely spaced among pines and firs. Would have given it 5 stars but had to leave early because of wildfire smoke--will definitely go back!

Overall very happy with amenities and maintenance at Sheep Creek CG. One suggestion there was an open trashcan in the bathroom by my campsite (#13) and some campers had put empty popcorn & candy bags in it which attracted bears who rooted around in it at night. If you are going to have cans in there (to keep people from putting trash in the toilet or on the floor I assume) it should be emptied before dark.

I loved it here and will go back. A bit magical being in a valley with trees and mountains overlooking the campsite.
ONLY complaint is that the Recreation.gov website clearly states each site can have no more than 6 people per campsite. But the site next to us had a family, more like an army of 11 (!!!) staying next to us. Loud? Yes. They also chose to walk through our site to get to the restroom. At 11 people it was rude so we spoke up. Still I was amazed that no ranger came to break the group up and there was no ranger to speak to at the campground. Other than that lovely.

We LOVED Sheep Creek campground. The sites are on the mid to large size, and all within walking distance of the King River. A bike path goes to the little "village" (a little store, take-out food, and hotel), as well as to the little Visitor Center. The charm of this area though is the surrounding towering granite cliffs, and the views. The hike to Mist Falls is beautiful.

Our spot was clean and intimate
Restrooms were clean
Make sure to store all items in bear box because there are wild bears that can show up
10/10 will be coming back next year

.Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki. Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible. Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger. A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets. |
