What Guests Are Saying
Sunset Campground is praised for its beautiful sunset views, clean facilities, and convenient location near major attractions in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Many visitors enjoyed the serene atmosphere, ample hiking opportunities, and friendly staff. However, some noted issues with noise from neighboring sites and varying site sizes, which could impact the camping experience. Overall, it's a lovely spot that many would return to despite a few drawbacks.

This is the best campground to choose because it indeed has a sunset view, looking west at a height of 6,500+ ft. and down into the valley of Mill Flat Creek and Sequoia Lake (a reservoir at 5,300 ft. created by damming the creek). It is a short walk to Grant Grove Village, which has a market, gift shop, restaurant, and Sequoia National Park Visitor Center (with wifi). There is no ATT cell signal in Sequoia or Kings Canyon NP, only Verizon. It's a short drive to the Grant Grove of ancient sequoia trees. Be sure to see the Chicago Stump (a 3,200 year old tree cut down in 1890) and drive down into the amazing Kings Canyon. An amazing drop of 5,000 ft. and a cliffhanger highway like the Million Dollar Highway in the Rocky Mountains in the Ouray area.

Beautiful and peaceful campsite, hidden trails in the campsite, bathroom near by, fires were allowed at the time of our stay. WE SAW A CUB.

This campsite was okay but not amazing. Booked 3 nights in August 2020 site#084 during Covid at 50 percent capacity, the park was quiet and the majority of campers were families and couples.
Pros:
-Depending on what campsite you get (check out my cons below) , most campsites are fairly large with ample parking space.
-Verizon cell service , two bars.
-Large metal bear boxes
- Clean Flush Toilets ( Maintenance serviced on our third day)
-Large commercial stainless steel sink to clean your dish-ware
-Garbage dumpsters accessible within walking distance.
-Water fill faucet stations easily accessible.
-People adhering to mask rule.
-Sheriff patrolled the area everyday around noon.
-Abundance of firewood for collecting.
-Feels like your in the forrest,
-Walking distance , 5 min drive to Grant Grove market.
Cons:
-Some campsites with great sunset views are not shaded.
-YELLOW JACKETS!!!! TONS!!!
-Noisy neighbors , we unfortunately got stuck next to a family with screaming kids, their music blaring & generator all day. The second night 4 college kids drinking all night. Site #084 is in a deep valley/ pocket, all sounds can be heard.
-LOUD toilet flushing , you can hear every single noise if your next to the latrine / Kabo,
-Restroom lights are really bright at night.
- If this campsite was at 100 percent capacity some campsites are neck to neck on top of each other, beware of anything near site#084
-The road is a oneway street with no signage , I saw people driving in circles , especially after check in was closed
I definitely would come back , depending on the campsite .
Please pick up your beer caps on the floor , and play your music through your headphones.
