What Guests Are Saying
Sunset Campground is praised for its beautiful sunset views, clean facilities, and convenient location near major attractions in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Many visitors enjoyed the serene atmosphere, ample hiking opportunities, and friendly staff. However, some noted issues with noise from neighboring sites and varying site sizes, which could impact the camping experience. Overall, it's a lovely spot that many would return to despite a few drawbacks.

We had an incredible time at Sunset Campground! True to its name, the sunset views here are absolutely quiet and serene—the perfect backdrop for relaxing with friends and family. It’s also in a great central location; we easily visited Hume Lake, jumped off Muir Rock, experienced Boyden Cavern, Grizzly Falls, and explored the Giant Forest all in one trip. If you want a peaceful spot that’s close to the best sights in Sequoia, this is it.

The camp area as well as the park is kept very clean and organized. The bathrooms are very clean and they always had toilet paper! At night, it was very quiet and we could hear the river. Come to enjoy these beautiful and panoramic scenes!

Everything well planned, managed and kept. Nice staff and great views and places to go. Avoid weekends if you can.

In general, this is a very nice campground, with access to the nearby Visitor Ctr as well as hiking trails. Be aware, though, that the individual sites vary in size and more importantly, in slope. Some of the sites are so sloped that it would be hard to find a flat spot to pitch a tent - and some have tables so slanted things would roll off them. We went at a time when the campground was not full so we could change our (too small) site for another that was very nice. FYI, the nearby visitor center explained how to make that change online using the wifi that was available there.
Bottom line: book a site, then be ready to switch to a better one if the campground is not full. If it is, you may be lucky or maybe not.
