What Guests Are Saying
Sunset Campground is praised for its beautiful sunset views, clean facilities, and convenient location near major attractions in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Many visitors enjoyed the serene atmosphere, ample hiking opportunities, and friendly staff. However, some noted issues with noise from neighboring sites and varying site sizes, which could impact the camping experience. Overall, it's a lovely spot that many would return to despite a few drawbacks.

Very conveniently located campground. Some sites are incredibly close together. We were lucky and got a space that was pretty well separated. Unfortunately there was a large family nearby using 4 sites grouped together, and they weren't monitoring their kids well, so their children kept running through our site in order to reach the hillside behind us. This is not a fault of the campground obviously. But I think being in such a good location means a lot of families.
Overall, if you want solitude, this is not the place. If you want convenience and great views, Sunset would be great, just take a look at the map and proximity of the sites.

Beautiful campground (group area A) for our large group with a lot of kids. Not a lot of level ground to put multiple tents on, but it was still doable. Plenty of bear boxes and picnic tables. The kids loved climbing on the rocks and fallen logs. We saw deer every morning. The bathrooms had a lot of creepy crawlies (which is to be expected) but were otherwise very clean!

Excellent campground. Although the bathrooms could have been cleaner. Other than that it was great

Site 73 is a good site. It has a nice flat area under a sequoia for a large tent. The site is nearly level throughout. The tent area is in dappled shade in the morning and full shade in the afternoon. We were never there at noon, but I would expect there to be shady spots throughout the day as well. (we were there in June, long days of sun) Not all the bathrooms have dishwashing sinks and the closest one to this site does not, so bring a dishpan unless you want to hike up a hill to the bathroom that does have a sink. The water faucet is right across the road, but oddly is facing in toward the campsite located there, so be polite when getting water. Site 73 has better spacing between it and other sites than many of the sites. Some are very close together and share parking pads. Site 73 is private. The only "problem" we had was when a couple came in late to Site 74, which is an RV only site, and had their compressor running past the 9 o'clock curfew. We let them go until quiet time at 10 and then had to ask them to turn it off, which they did. No harm, no foul, but a shame there is no one at the campground to enforce rules. Other than this minor annoyance, we had a great time.
