What Guests Are Saying
Sunset Campground is praised for its beautiful sunset views, clean facilities, and convenient location near major attractions in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Many visitors enjoyed the serene atmosphere, ample hiking opportunities, and friendly staff. However, some noted issues with noise from neighboring sites and varying site sizes, which could impact the camping experience. Overall, it's a lovely spot that many would return to despite a few drawbacks.

I have stayed at Sunset many times. Many of the campsites are steep but accommodate tents and trailers. I always feel like I can find a spot in a comfortable location. The bathrooms were well-stocked and we had access to trash cans. The fire rings are double layered for safety and thereβs even a nice grill that can be swung over the fire. We followed all the recommendations for the size of the bear box listed on the website, but when we arrived we found that the bare box was much larger and could have accommodated our larger ice chest and more totes and or bags full of food and toiletries. I wonder if these are newer or bare boxes that have replaced the old ones which were smaller. It was nice to have a much larger bear box to put all of our things that had smells into it.The new picnic tables are solid stone or cement. I didnβt like how we couldnβt move the picnic table out of the sun, but it was much larger than the original wooden tables which was nice. We saw wildlife like birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and even deer walking through the campground. We felt safe in the park with other campers and the Rangers coming through occasionally. Itβs very close to grants Village with a little store and visitor center. I love that Kings Canyon is a bit quieter and less touristy than Sequoia itself. Donβt forget to go by Hume lake, itβs a wonderful experience.

Great campground, lots of shade, quiet, well maintained. Store up the street, some easy hiking trails right out of the campground, and a convenient drive to to Sequoia Natl park and shuttle busses, which i what we were looking for. Would camp here again for sure.

Very nice, clean campground with many sites that offer some seclusion from neighbors. As the name implies, the sunset view is great from several sites.

The campground has a good location near General Grant and other points of interest. Some camping spots might be too close one to another and there is little privacy or respect for neighbors. We had #109 that had a good location up the hill, a relatively flat tent space that fitted a 9x10 ft tent. Itβs surrounded very close by #88 and #110 so be prepared for no minimal privacy, but enjoy the place and nature!
