What Guests Are Saying
Granite Flat campground is praised for its beautiful location near the Truckee River, clean facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a popular choice for annual visits. Many campers appreciate the easy access to outdoor activities like biking and floating, and the well-maintained restrooms add to the positive experience. However, road noise from nearby Highway 89 is a common concern, particularly at night, which can detract from the overall tranquility of the site.

I made reservations 6 months out for site 55, a pull through site that would easily accommodate my 36’ 5th wheel. About a week before my arrival the camp host called me to tell me the loop I had reserved the site in would be closed one day after my arrival, ugh. The host again called the day before my arrival to offer two spots he selected for me. The first site was beyond my backing ability due to obstacles in the area I needed to maneuver my truck and had low hanging tree branches to drag on my rig. The second site would barely fit my rig, much less my truck. The host was gone when we arrived but I called him and explained the situation and he said basically I could take any site that wasn’t occupied and I found one that worked. Granite Flats has an unusual layout in that the loops are marked as one way with both signs and arrows on the road but some sites are angled backwards so that they could only be backed in from the opposite direction of travel. I think the site lengths listed online are optimistic and must have been measured to the far end of the angled opening which means if your trailer and vehicle is the length listed then something is going to be sticking out in the road. Like many older campgrounds I think Granite Flats was designed when trailers were much smaller than they are now. Also most of the sites back in to the passenger side which make it difficult compared to backing into a site on the driver’s side. If you are not familiar with the campground take a look at online photos of the campground layout as there is little signage where you enter from the highway. The campsite numbers seem somewhat random, not sequential. The paved roads are in good shape but need overhanging trees trimmed. Threaded water spigots are available at several locations but you will be blocking the road for however long you take to fill your tanks. There is no dump station. There is minimal river access at riverside sites.

Beautiful place, very well organized, good services of toilets and water supply but not electricity, ample camping/parking sites. My only complaint is the noise coming from the adjacent highway.

The river was very fun as you could do laps floating the length of the campground. The close proximity to the highway drops this one down a star.

very beautiful location. Our site was near the river. The sites are spaced far enough apart to have a feeling of relative privacy.

Great site, very close to downtown Tahoe. The Truckee river runs close enough to walk to from several campgrounds. Only downside is it is very close to the highway, so you can hear cars at night. Would definitely stay here again!
