What Guests Are Saying
Granite Flat campground is praised for its beautiful location near the Truckee River, clean facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a popular choice for annual visits. Many campers appreciate the easy access to outdoor activities like biking and floating, and the well-maintained restrooms add to the positive experience. However, road noise from nearby Highway 89 is a common concern, particularly at night, which can detract from the overall tranquility of the site.

Very nice campground along the Truckee River near Truckee, CA. Camp host was very organized and up early every morning checking on the campsites and keeping the bathrooms and everything clean. Only downside was the road noise.

Area was clean. Camo host was friendly, informative and helpful. Some sites are difficult to back into as the entrance to the campground flows the opposite way.

I love this campground. The location is only about 1.5 miles south of the lovely town of Truckee with great restaurants, super hardware store, SaveMart groceries, and a new Grocery Outlet. Want a cold beer or firewood or forgot the eggs? You just have to drive a mile and a half to Truckee. A beautiful 12 mile drive takes you to the world famous Lake Tahoe where you will also find amazing amenities including a wonderful North Tahoe Arts gallery and store with works by local artisans. Be sure to hike the spectacular Rubicon trail which starts at the D.L. Bliss Campground.
Granite Flats Campground does have the "traffic noise" and I do recommend you not stay in the sites along the road. Plan ahead or check for cancellations or go in the middle of the week so you can reserve the sites that are NOT #7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 47, 49, 51, 53, 67, or 68. If you are desperate and have strong ear plugs then be forewarned that those sites are basically the frontage road for HWY 89. hahaha. The camp host, Scott, is very dedicated and works hard many hours beyond his contracted job hours in an effort to make sure each campsite is clean for the next reservation. PLEASE people, pick up your cigarette butts, pistachio nut shells, bottle caps, dental floss, and crumpled up foil. These do not belong in the fire pit either. The hard working camp host takes pride in his work and I see him bending over picking up some campers dental floss on the ground and I am sad that some campers are not more considerate. The warning that there are bears is genuine but there are very strong and large metal bear containers provided. Keep food and scented items out of your car and tent. One of my photos is of a bear in the Granite Flat Campground in August 2020. Remember that bears don't see very well but have a keen sense of smell . . . and are smarter than you think . . . Don't sleep in your tent with marshmallow spilled on your clothes. hahaha. Enjoy your stay!

We booked site 49 and it was pretty much like pulling to the side of a busy highway to sleep. It was extremely loud with no privacy in between sites. We decided to leave the next day. I think if you are lucky enough to book one the sites by the river you will probably have a good stay, but if you end up like us with one of the sites by the road it's best to go somewhere else. Honestly, the campground should not let folks stay on those sites and only keep the ones farther from the road.

The campground sits right between 89 and the Truckee River. We were lucky enough to get a spot next to the water. You can absolutely hear the traffic on 89, but it became background noise to us after a while because its moving traffic. If you're someone who wants peace and quiet I would not recommend this site, especially the sites closest to the highway - you're practically camping on the shoulder with a couple trees between you.

Like all the other reviews say, it is VERY CLOSE to the highway, and while at times it's easy to block out the car noises, it's really hard to while you're camping and trying to sleep at night. But, it is what it is, and if you're looking to stay a night or two here for the location (because it is so close to Lake Tahoe, like 20min or something like that). Plus there's the little river on the other side of the campground, good for morning dips! (Cold!!)
Also, this campground is dog friendly, HOWEVER, if you have a dog, I recommend going to South Lake Tahoe!!! We could barely find anything dog friendly on the North Side in regards to beaches, but the South Side has a few good options, plus, we just enjoyed the south side more. :)

We didn’t even stay because it is so noisy. We live in an urban area and the noise from the Truckee highway was worse than what we hear at home. Besides that there isn’t any shade unless you have the spots right along the Truckee River. I wouldn’t recommend if you are really into the quietness and beauty of nature.

Location was amazing but the campsite is off a main highway we didn’t think it would be bad but you campsite 11is like 10 feet from that highway which is busy like 24/7 with cars driving speeds at 70mph! Not a restful site at all the other side camp12 and most even numbers are a little further from the road and right next to the river pretty amaizing! Probably won’t camp here again I have a toddler and my anxiety was through the roof not very fun if your trying to disconnect from the world!

I loved this place! i stayed on site 64 and i had the river to myself! great spot for 2-3 tents, bear locker, table, fire pit, and space to hang your hammock. The host was super nice and helpful. The best Birthday ever.
'm from Los Angeles and it is dry and sad out here, so when i saw what i would wake up to every morning i was grateful. FYI There is car noise since its by the highway but who cares you have a river to you self!!! Also was cool that there was a Mexican market and a grocery store for carne asada, wood and other last minute louse items. Love you truckee and Tahoe always in my heart!!
