Campsites are close to one another with little privacy. However, this campground is in the middle of Joshua Tree NP and connected to trails that allow you to explore the surrounding areas and to scramble nearby rock formations. The vault toilets are relatively clean and have low odor. You do not have to drive far from this campground to get to other trails, viewpoints, rock climbing areas, and exhibits along Park Blvd.

Stunning campsite amid the boulders with soft gravel footing and ample space for a 2- or 4-person tent. Short walk to site from parking lot. Very close to sites #4 & #6, recommend the three sites for a group of friends or family. Easy access to Skull Rock nature trail. Convenient to 29 Palms. Will be back!

Jumbo Rocks is close to scull Rock and an easy hike for almost everyone. There are several hikes right out from the campsite.

A new kind of geology for me. The rocks looked like pillows. I should have reviewed the campsites better. Number 2 was in the shade the whole time I was there.

Great campground to stay. Great location with beautiful views. Very convenient for hiking trails. Definitely, I would stay there again. I wish there were a shower. Overall 5 stars.

Site 74 had a beautiful view and was near the end of all the sites. On the other hand, it was sort of attached with an other campsite. It was by the camp host(good or bad) and it was on a gnarly slope.

Great campground nestled in the rocks. A little close to adjacent site but this one is tucked back with privacy. Great place to watch sunset and stars.

The bathrooms were never cleaned for our entire trip Monday through Friday. One day someone came and picked up the toilet paper off the floor but no one cleaned the toilet seat despite having a rig with water and a pump to the clean the bathrooms on their truck. In fact they put about 15 rolls of toilet paper and didn’t return for the entire 4 days. And there was often a line at the pit toilet morning and evening, people waiting to use it so it got lots of use.
Parking was slim and people were waiting for parking spaces as they were hard to come by. A shuttle to get around would have been nice to prevent cars driving around looking for parking and people parking from far away and walking on the roads.
I would have liked to see more signs to encourage people to stay on the trails. The desert crust is a fragile ecosystem and I saw people taking a short cut when there was a clearly marked trail. I even told them the main trail would lead them the same way in the fork ahead but they said yeah and ignored me and kept walking. More interpretive rangers would have been nice and more signage.
I really wish that commercial or park pay showers were available at the edge of the park. It would have been really nice to take a shower. One of our friends in a nearby site didn’t realize there was no water in the area.
Overall a beautiful and special place that I will return to.
