About Crane Flat Campground

Crane Flat Campground is closed for the winter.Please be mindful of young plants and shrubs by keeping all wheels on parking pads and camping equipment within established campsites.Crane Flat Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The site is conveniently located 17 miles from Yosemite Valley at an elevation of 6,200 feet. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas and so much more.Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The campground is in good condition. The bathrooms are well maintained and actually have running water and flushing toilets, which is a big plus. The ranger was very friendly and helpful. The ground is a bit hard for driving tent stakes, but nothing a mallet or a good solid rock can’t fix. :)

Great campground in Yosemite. We had a double/group spot that was big enough for our group to spread out and enjoy the peace and quiet of this campground. Compared to others, this was a quiet car camp. The bats at sunset were incredible.

We stayed two nights here. Peaceful area. But no lights in restrooms. They should install solar lights when we are paying $36 per night. All other campgrounds have some lights in restrooms. Crane Flat is the only one with no lights.

This campground was a great place to sleep for a few nights. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. Has a potable water area next to the bathrooms. Food storage locker was large enough to store my cooler plus all our food. A 30 minute drive to Yosemite Valley and within an hour to most other areas in Yosemite. If you need to shower I recommend going to curry village and paying the $5.75 to use there public showers. We'll worth it. I will definitely be staying here for my future visits.

Really great location (30 minutes to the valley, access to Tioga Rd), has a fire pit, campgrounds are on the smaller size but you can move the table around to create more space. I would personally recommend gettinig a campsite next to the bathroom/wash area. Nights are quite and peaceful and not as hot as campgrounds in the valley. Campground is decently shaded. No showers but there are flush toilets.

Policies & Rules

General

  • You are responsible for reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment. The campground has had a complete overhaul and every site has changed.
  • If arriving one or more days late, call (209) 379-2123; your reservation will be cancelled if we do not hear from you within 24 hours of your arrival date.
  • Bring proof of your reservation (screen shot or paper version). There is no internet access, cell service or public phone at Crane Flat.You must sign in at the entrance of the campground or you will be considered a no show and your reservation cancelled.Make your site look occupied--leave a chair or other equipment so we know you've arrived.
  • Bears and wildlife live here! Food, scented items and toiletries must be stored 24 hours/day. Absolutely NO food stored in vehicles!Food lockers are provided in all campsites and measure 35 inches deep x 43 inches wide x 28 inches high.Dispose of garbage immediately in bear-proof dumpsters or in your locker. Do NOT hang garbage bags in your site!
  • No electric, water, or sewer hookups are available at this facility, however, a dump station is located in Yosemite Valley, as are showers.
  • Resale or auction of advance reservations is prohibited.
  • There is no electricity and therefore, no lights in this campground. Bring a light source!
  • For additional park information, call (209)372-0200 or visit www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit 
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
  • Help Yosemite be a Zero Landfill park! Leave excess packaging at home. Use refillable water & propane bottles, food containers and travel mugs. Place all of your recyclable waste in designated recycling containers. For more information go to: https://www.nps.gov/yose/getinvolved/zlf.htm
