Site 526 is nice because it only has immediate neighbors on one side. It feels better than it is. Make sure you heed the parking area dimensions if you are parking a trailer. Maneuvering into the driveway is tight if you are backing a trailer. The camp hosts were kind and because we followed the bear rules we were left alone to enjoy our visit. We brought our two Labradors for a week long stay and had plenty of opportunities to walk them n the valley. No problems and we kept them leashed or otherwise confined during our stay. I was worried that they may limit our enjoyment, but Yosemite is more dog friendly than you may think. Bring your bike as there are at least 12 miles of bike trails on the valley floor. We had a great time.

North Pines is a beautiful campsite with clean bathrooms and drinking water. Camp fire was allowed but only from 5 pm to 10 pm, which seems a bit too restrictive. Many of the sites are shady and beautiful mountain views. Curry Village restaurants are walking distance from the campground. We had a wonderful stay.

God blessed us with a last-minute reservation and we stayed in site 505 for a night in our Sprinter Van.
The sites are mostly small (compared to other sites we've stayed at in California parks). The fire pit for #503 was pretty much less than 10 feet away from the back of our van. What our site lacked in size, it made up for by being across from sites 502, 504, and 506 (these sites are HUGE!), and the kids were able to get down to the river and play in the water and in the riverbanks. There were also great cliffs that you could see across from the Merced river and if you look back from site 505 toward sites 400-403.
We got good neighbors and everyone mostly goes to sleep by 10pm, as there is only fire burning from 5-10pm.
There are many rules in the park (generator usage, fire pit usage time, no water spigots, only have to wash dishes by the bathroom, bear boxes, etc), but I understand why they are in place. Since Yosemite gets SO many visitors each year, it would turn into a dumpster if it didn't have those rules. Just be prepared for them and you'll have a good time :)
Bathrooms are ok, but didn't have any soap. Also, the sink where you wash dishes has a poor faucet, and the water gets splashed on your feet.
Site 505 is an "RV site", but when I called, they said that you CAN put a tent there if it will fit besides the van. Just make it a small-ish tent. I'm not sure if you can pitch the tent tarp in the soil/ground though. The site is level.
Overall, we would go back!

I stayed one night in the backpacker's campground before a trip, and it was great. Checking in was simple, just make sure to have the recreation.gov app already downloaded because you will scan the QR code through the app. Pit toilets are available and as good as to be expected. The location is easy to find in the North Pines Campgrounds, just stay to the right, which is a one-way, and it will be around the curve on your right. There is an unloading zone, but you will need to park in Curry Village. Overall great experience, and love that permit holders have access to this campground!

Backpacker's campground located across the bridge over Tenaya Creek from North Pines. A nice option for the night before if you have a wilderness permit. 15-20 min walk to the conveniences of Curry Village.
