The only option was to pay online with the recreation.gov app. But it declined our two credit cards and the creditcards of the other hikers two. So the app didn’t work. Paying cash was online possible after long discusen with the ranger

Stayed in site 403. The bathrooms are close, and the light bled through and flooded the campsite. The neighbors are extremely close. The national park service in general does a poor job of allowing you to bring our 4 legged friend along. So glad we left out giant schnauzer home, as they are prohibiting them from many of the trails. I guess the best way to describe this campsite is similar to a Disney land type of outdoor adventure, very regulated and not to our families liking.

North pines is too crowded with people & no space between campsites. NO PRIVACY. People walking right in front of our windows. Too many campfires in close proximity producing dense smoke. Wife’s asthma greatly aggravated. Had to keep our windows closed & it was hot. Our site was next to BR listen to toilets flushing & trash cans being banged & trash collectors noisy. Little kids screaming & running around day & night, & uncontrolled on bicycles.
Drivers drive too fast & tailgate.
No Wi-Fi. Limited phone. Will NEVER go back to North Pines. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

Site 401 has its pros and cons. Pros- you CAN’T beat being in the park and so close to Curry Village. Being able to wake up in the valley with your own parking spot with trailheads and Curry Village within walking distance can’t be beat. I pity the people reliant on the shuttle and having to hassle for parking. For the most part everyone was respectful of quiet hours between 10pm-6am.
Cons- site 401 isn’t ideal. It’s right near the bathrooms which meant several people walked through our campsite. They stopped after we politely asked, just annoying. The site is also across from several trash and recycling bins. Both of these things meant light and noise until about 10:30-11pm every night. We’re hikers and in bed for hikers midnight (9pm). The site is a decent size and a bit offset from other sites so didn’t feel cramped. No shade- hot tent and hot beatbox.
Bear box was a great size- use it! Everything goes in it even gum wrappers! It’s walkable distance from Mist Trail head, mirror lake, and curry village. The shuttles were miserably crowded so just walk the distances
