Wawona Campground

This campground was awesome. Away from the hustle and bustle of Yosemite Valley and perfect for our family. My kids were loud and everyone was still kind to us. We plan on returning again and again.

The location was not ideal. First, it was on a slope and of some distance from where the car was parked. Second, the campsite is literally sandwiched between Wawona Road and the campsite road leading to campsites B & C. The noise level did not provide the peaceful environment that I had hoped for when camping.

Furthermore, unlike other camping sites, there was no potable water with short distance. Water was located outside the bathroom facilities.

Loved this campground! Spacious, clean, and the river is a beautiful addition! Highly recommend looking forward to our next visit.

With the Hotel being closed, the whole area felt like a ghost town, and since I’ve been coming here for 30 years during much more lively times, it felt a little depressing

Lovely camping place. Clean and comfortable. Gorgeous river.

Ground is some what flat and seriously huge space with river along the side.
We set up two landlock and a land nest shelter. Still had more room.

Beautiful campsite that is well maintained. The rangers were very friendly and helpful. We had an amazing spot right next to the creek, so we were able to swim and hang out. The only downsides of the site are that it’s very close to the road, so you constantly hear cars, and there’s not very much shade so it got hot during the day. We loved the size of the bear box because we could fit everything in it, but it was in direct sunlight and would get so hot that we needed to wear gloves to open it. We would definitely stay at this campsite again.

Nice campground! Stay along the river & enjoy easy access to swimming! Seemed like a lot of people camped here to do just that.

Loved the campsite. It’s right next to part of the Merced river. The spot we had was so spacious. The bear box was clean. The parking was a little awkward but not terrible. Right across from the bathrooms which was so convenient.

It's true that there's really no flat area to set up the tent. Even on the flattest area, we were sliding down in our tent throughout the night. But this was mostly manageable! The other not so great part of this site is the lack of shade in the afternoon, especially when it gets so hot in the summer afternoon. We couldn't bear to spend any time around the camp in the afternoon. The bear box also gets incredibly hot, so you have to keep anything you don't want to melt in the cooler. Last thing, and I'm not sure if this was an issue just for our site, was constantly trying to fight off yellow jackets from our food at meal time. I'd bring a canopy with netting to eat at this site if you have one.

Pros: easy access to the bathroom and clear view of the night sky for star gazing! I like that this site wasn't sandwiched on both sides by other sites. Bathrooms were nice and clean.
