What Guests Are Saying
Pumphouse Recreation Area is praised for its great location near the river, beautiful surroundings, and improved facilities such as potable water and friendly camp hosts. Many visitors enjoy fishing and the peaceful atmosphere, though some express concerns about cleanliness and the recent mandatory reservation system, which has made access less convenient. Overall, while there are areas for improvement, many guests look forward to returning to this scenic spot.

I don't understand why I had to have a reservation when everybody else just came in and camped without paying, no reservation. The RR's were filthy, black mould growing on walls . I had to call after making my reservation to get my senior discount. Definitely a few steps backwards from a few years back

It's not as easy as it used to be. I used to be able to drive up in non-busy times, get a first come first serve site, (usually being the only one there), pay on a day by day basis. Now it requires a reservation, determine in advance how long I want to stay and make a reservatio. In my last case i left early so I lost money. If I had wanted to stay longer, I wouldn't have been able to because there is no service available to add a day to reservation. THE CAMPGROUND WAS EMPTY. The change to mandatory reservation even for low use periods was not a good change

The camping area is quite remote, with no cell signal unless you are really lucky. It’s relatively well maintained. It’s mostly a jumping off point for river activities. Bring some cash or a checkbook for day use fees if you are going to leave your car longer than you have your site reserved.

Rec.gov website could not be any more difficult to navigate. I added a night to my visit and didn't get my senior discount after putting in my info. Didn't get the site I requested. Fortunately there was nobody there and I was able to go where I wanted. Sites are now more expensive with fewer amenities. R.R's were filthy for my whole stay, multiple days , and trash dumpsters have been removed even though prices are up. Not the same easy to use site that it had been for 50 years. Definitely going backwards at this location
