Pumphouse Recreation Area

Nice camp spot.

The campsite itself was great - spacious, included picnic table- and was in a scenic area close to the river.
My only complaints- people started showing up before 7 am and the parking lot was quite close to the campsite- and they were not making any effort to be quiet. Also, there' is a train just across the river that seems to run only in the middle of the night, and it's quite loud.

Some campgrounds were nicely spaced. Others were crammed together and desolate looking.
Access to the river was good, busy.
Beautiful Colorado valley.

Better be ready for raccoons- and lots of em! We had a really very pleasant campsite with access to a shady spot along the river. No complaints but just be aware there are marauding bands of raccoons- 8 to 10 anyway- that are very bold about getting into anything and everything.
On a more positive note, hiking the Gore Canyon Trail, and better yet the Argentine Trail through the canyons is an exceptional experience!

I'm so happy that there is drinking water available there now. We were able to float pump house to radium twice on sunday. Although, we never did camp out because we got evacuated for the Hartman fire. These things happen Pray For Rain for the West.

Gorgeous location, campsites right by the river. Roads in/out are well maintained. Vault toilets well maintained. Maybe I missed it, could have used signage as to which way to which campsites; had to drive around until I found the right direction to go. Would definitely stay again.

I have been to the Pumphouse campsites many many times over the last 20 years. This was my first time camping in the sites 6 - 8 area. I found them to be extremely frustrating. There are cars parked essentially in your campsite on either side of you. They were almost all fisherman and playwave users. The fisherman were there super early (by or before 6am) and not quiet. They woke up everyone in our campsite. Additionally at the end of the day one of them found it acceptable to walk into "reserved area", go sit at our picnic table, and take off all their fishing gear. The playwave users were there until after dark, were loud, and had colorful language. We aren't saints, and our kids have certainly heard profanities, but it's not the same when every other word is F this and F that. I have to imagine this is not a one time occurrence, and that anyone who stays in those three campsites will experience a similar outcome. While I don't want to suggest less campsites, if public parking is to be right beside you I would suggest that perhaps sites 6, 7, and 8 are turned into day usage sites. This feels somewhat petty to complain about, but like I said I have been to this campsite numerous times. This was my first unhappy experience. We dedicate significant hours of effort and driving to give our kids fun and memorable experiences. This trip left a bad enough taste in my mouth enough to write a review. I will continue to visiting Pumphouse, but never again stay at sites 6, 7, or 8.

12 vehicles for group site A is a challenge.

Unable to back in camper-trailer to reserved site. Two different steep grades to manage (loop road and campsite driveway with a 6-8 inch depression in between). Tried to cancel reservation but was unable to do so on recreation.gov.

Campsite is fully exposed to sun with no shade and lots of flying insects due to the proximity to the water. I was on a roadtrip camping along the way so since the entire campsite was just dirt, I slept in the back of my vehicle to avoid the dirt. I didn’t see any camp hosts while there and the campfire ring had remnants of fire in it despite fire restrictions and a nearby wildfire. This is definitely not a family friendly campground unless you have lots of canopies and maybe a battery operated fan.
