Great NF campground, about 6mi from downtown Durango! Narrow, windy road to get to park, the last 1.5mi being gravel, washboard, but gorgeous once you get there! Loop “E” is definitely the best for larger rigs, w/ 50a elect., and site #3 was perfect! No satellite because of being surrounded by Ponderosa Pines, and Cell service is 1-2 bars, even with booster. Loved hiking the Colorado trail along the creek right from the campground, and also the flume trail up above the camp. Gorgeous area up in the pines!! Would definitely stay again, but not the most convenient if you want to spend a lot of time in town of Durango - La Plata County fairgrounds in town would be better.

The camp hosts were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The gravel road coming into the camp ground was atrocious. The washboarding was so bad we left a day early and went to a different campground because I felt it was shaking my truck to the point it would cause damage as we went in and out each day. All it needed was a grading, not sure why that could not happen. Also we had to run a generator for our refrigerator cause it only runs on electricity or batteries and inverter. We would have to run it about an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening, well within the allowed hours. We had a neighbor call us rude and was very ugly to us for running our generator. We felt unwelcome for running the generator even that short amount of time, but we dealt with that. The biggest complaint was the road.

Great hiking trails with beautiful views. The maintenance is exceptional with RV spots hand raked. The campground offers lots of shade and privacy by Ponderosa Pines which also offers wood to be gathered.
Be prepared, the road up is a bit narrow and washboard.

Quick overnight stop while traveling. The campground was very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed a beautiful hike and quiet sleeping. The road was a little rough in a few parts but the close proximity to Durango and excellent stay made it worth it. We wished we had our mountain bikes to enjoy more of the trails.
