We had an absolutely fantastic experience. The campsite was beautiful and impeccable -- we did not find one small piece of litter as we have in some other campsites. The bathrooms were among the cleanest public bathrooms I have ever used. The crew that manages the campground clearly runs a tight ship.

We visited in September after school was already in session, and the campground was about 25% full, which made the experience even better.

We had a great 8-mile hike along the Colorado trail to Gudy's Rest up on a ridge with a fantastic view. Not too many people on the trail. The trailhead is about 5 minutes (driving) down the road from the campground.
We loved it and would recommend it.

Wonderful campsite! Not too far into Durango (15 min). Also, hardest working camp hosts I've ever witnessed. We're super helpful checking us in, etc.

Road leading to campground is very rough. Road grading would be nice but the park is exceptionally clean and nice. Sites are nice size and spread out too.

We were looking for relaxation and seclusion and we got exactly that. The host was amazingly helpful and the sites were ALL marked very well and impeccably clean. People complain about the dirt road that leads up to the campground but we didn't find it to be any different than any other Colorado dirt road that is well traveled...sometimes it is grated better than other times but it is still perfectly passable. We will definitely come back to this spot again.

From Main Street in Durango, travel west on 25th Street (across from the fairgrounds entrance) for just over three miles, to the forest boundary. Continue just over a mile to the campground entrance. The day-use area loops to the left.

The extended summer season will continue starting 9/27 through 10/18/2025, FCFS only campsites. No Water will be available during this time. Please plan accordingly. Restrooms and trash service will still be available. Host onsite.
