What Guests Are Saying
Moraine Park Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park offers a beautiful and peaceful camping experience, with stunning views of snow-capped mountains and abundant wildlife like deer and elk. Campers appreciate the clean facilities, friendly staff, and convenient access to hiking trails. While some improvements could be made, such as better bathroom signage and more electrical sites, many visitors express a strong desire to return due to the campground's overall charm and serene ambiance.

RMNP is amazing. No other way to put it. The proximity to wildlife is like no other park I've been to. Every trail we hiked was meticulously maintained and led to amazing views that you can't see anywhere else. Being elk rut...there were elk EVERYWHERE which was so neat to see. For non-hikers there are still plenty of places to see by car. If you fly fish there are so many rivers to catch brook, rainbow and cut-throat trout. Estes park is far enough way (and a quiet enough town) that all you hear in the park is nature. It's great. But Estes Park is close enough so if you need anything it's only a stones throw away. If you're from anywhere but the mountains be sure to give yourself a day or two to acclimate to the elevation. A base elevation of 9K feet is no joke. If you're thinking about coming here, do it. I can't wait to get back.

Moraine Park Campsite A-133 entailed a little bit of climbing up and down from the car to the site, but it was very manageable. The surrounding trees were helpful in setting a tarp rain shelter system. The bear box was very closely located, and the picnic table in good condition. There was reasonable privacy, the surrounding views were nice, and the flush toilet / dishwashing station nearby was a major plus. I did get to use the privacy stalls for a bucket bath on the days it didn't rain. The Park Rangers and Volunteer Campsite Host were excellent.
I hiked around Bear Lake and Emerald Lake, drove and hiked up to Alpine Ridge, and hung out at Estes Park for a while - a nice balance of walking and driving. Car traffic was sometmes gnarly since many folks parked at the roadside just to get close to rutting elk, but overall, it was an excellent location to explore the northeastern corner of the national park.

This is a gorgeous site with great views and a real wilderness feel to it. By my count, it's 103 steps from the parking lot. One downside is that the dirt on the camping pad is so hard I was unable to stake my tent down. This wasn't a problem until there were high winds one night, and my tent was blowing all over the place with me in it. Other than that, great.

Campground is very nice and clean. Only negative was the grumpy firewood lady. Apparently giving change for a $20 was going to ruin her day. She actually told me to go to town to change it out for smaller bills. So I bought firewood in town.

Morraine Campground is clean and quiet. This was our second stay in this campground and once again, we found it to be a perfect spot from which to stage all of our RMNP adventures. Kuddos to all who worked so hard to save the campground from the 2020 fires. The park is a testament to how fire and forests naturally co-exist creating the protective and healthy mosaic of burn and untouched forest. The mosaic is front and center, on display at Morraine campground. Hiking to the top of Deer Mountain and enjoying the fall elk rut were highlights of this last trip.

Stay Out of Hydroseeded Areas!Moraine Park Campground has recently been re-seeded after construction! This process, called hydroseeding, applies a combination of local native seed, mulch fiber, and water to disturbed areas, and looks similar to fine straw. Over the next couple of years, this seed will germinate and help restore the local native plant communities we know and love. Please protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of hydroseeded areas. |
