About Elk Creek Campground

Elk Creek Campground is on the north shore of Blue Mesa Reservoir. The lake is Colorado's largest body of water with 96 miles of shoreline and the largest Kokanee Salmon fishery in the United States. Elk Creek Campground is located off of US HWY 50 -15 miles west of Gunnison Co. at Mile Marker 142. The campground is part of the Curecanti National Recreation Area, which was named after a Ute Indian chief of the mid-19th century.  The Elk Creek area is a hub for water based activities year round.

So lovely! Good service (Verizon), clean and relatively non-stinky vault toilets, only complaint was that all of the trash cans aside from the ones near the entrance were locked so I had to keep in my car. I know it’s off season, but just flagging so folks are aware :)

The rangers were wonderful here and put on an awesome show to point out stars and constellations including letting us look through a large telescope. The campground has great views, is well laid out with bathrooms and sites, and makes it easy to spend time on the water.

Upon arrival and before launching, all watercraft must be inspected and certified as Zebra and Quagga Mussel free. Inspection stations are located at the Elk Creek and Lake Fork boat ramps during peak seasons (May through October). Please visit Curecanti's Boat Ramps page for details.

Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood . CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that contacts water.
