This campground is a perfect location to begin exploring the reservoir and surrounding area, however access from here to the water is impossible with current levels. Be sure to bring some sort of shade or canopy as there is minimal shade, especially at this site. I really enjoyed the historical presentation at night by the Ranger, there was even a special appearance by a local author/historian. The bathrooms were immaculate and getting in/out of the campgrounds was a breeze despite how large it is.

The bathroom facilities were spotless! The camp hots were nice, and the camp spots were nice and quiet.

Love the dark space sky. The bathrooms are immaculate. Couldn’t swim due to low water levels and toxic algae but imagine it’s fantastic in non-drought years. Only satellite messaging available (sometimes) with T-mobile. Gunnison just a quick drive away.

As expected, because of the ongoing severe drought, the area surrounding the campground was quite dry this year and the lake water level was quite low. For me, this was a great scenario, as my purpose for being there was to find and document migrating shore birds! The low water level kept many people away, as well as creating a wonderful mud flat for the migrating birds to rest on and forage before continuing there journey!
The camp spot itself was quite accommodating for my self-sufficient trailer. I will definitely plan on camping there in the future (most likely during “shoulder seasons” when the birds are at peak migration.

- All watercraft must be inspected for invasive species before launching.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
