During the off season there are not a lot of options for camping in this area, but we were lucky to find Elk Creek and get a good site in the A loop with a great view of the water- (we did not opt for D loop which I discovered later has electric hook ups!) Overall, it was a peaceful place and we enjoyed our brief stay overnight. We took a short walk down to the water, but it looks like a great place for more recreational opportunities. The time of year ( early April) meant there was plenty of sites to choose from so we drove through and then easily reserved and paid online for our preferred site.

Amazing campground with amazing stargazing opportunities, and Lakeside views mountains on the other side and very calm in the night

Nice level spots nicely spaced. No shade. One day was real windy and the next day there wasn’t even a whisper of a breeze.

The layout of this campground is user friendly, has adequate spacing between sites and always pleasant camp hosts. The views are perfectly western Colorado. There is lots to do - biking, hiking, fishing, boating and just plain enjoying camping. Star gazing and the dark night skies can't be beat. Nothing better than to watch the full moon rise over the eastern horizon, sitting by a warm campfire and listening to the night. The town of Gunnison, has many choices of eateries, shopping and activities. Although right off Highway 50, you get used to the noise of the traffic. The light distraction is almost eliminated by virtue of the great amenities.

Great campsite and camp spot! Amazing view of the lake and sunset! Wish there were trees for shade but there are ways to bring tarps etc so I wouldn’t knock a star rating just for that. My dad and I had a great time! Also I appreciated the motion censored bathroom lights at night :)
