About Stevens Creek Campground

Stevens Creek Campground lies on the north shore at the eastern end of Blue Mesa Reservoir. This is the closest campground to the town of Gunnison, CO. Popular with boaters, Stevens Creek has easy access to the reservoir. It is very sunny and bright, and the scent of sagebrush adds to the camping experience. A bit downstream is the Morrow Point Reservoir and the Crystal Reservoir, both surrounded by the steep cliffs of the Black Canyon.

Camp site 009A was nice. It had good views, decent privacy & good lake access. However, the lake is way down & has lots of wierd algae. The Rangers were courteous & helpful, & it is nice to stay at a campsite with amnities like vault bathrooms, potable water, trash dumpsters, picnic tables & fire-rings.

Very nice, spacious campground. Good facilities including multiple ponds, a trail along the Colorado River, showers. Full hookups. Beautiful view of the mesas. Close to the wild horse sanctuary (and a shooting range on the same road). Unfortunately, it is right next to the freeway. But after the first day, we really didn't hear it anymore. I would stay here again.

Simply the worst camping experience in my more than 60 years on the planet. Aggressive, nasty red ants EVERYWHERE! THEY BITE!!! And, just when I thought "I've got to kill these things before they eat me alive" I see the sign prohibiting me from doing so. My two day stay became 2 hours. I was OUT OF THERE! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Picked this campsite because of its closeness to the reservoir. Reserved campsite 10, got there and it was FULL of red ants. You couldn't even walk anywhere without ants crawling up your legs. Campsite 9,10,11 and I think 12 are all like this so DO NOT BOOK. It confuses me how they wouldn't just close those sites. Luckily we were able to camp in a site where someone had left a day early.

Great spot to stay a couple nights to check out Gunnison and Black Canyon NP. Little shade, be prepared for that. Enjoy the water at day, star gazing at night.
