We stayed 2 nights at Steven's Creek Campground and it got the job done, it's a good campground if you have lots of water activities to do, otherwise not much to do at the actual campground itself. We did find a spot just up the road to hang out on the reservoir/river which was nice. We were just in a tent so when it got windy we were very exposed, but lasted through the storm. We did Hermit's Rest Trail down to the Gunnison river, just a 45 min drive from the campground. Also close proximity to Gunnison so we went into town for some food/to walk around. Would go back if I had a boat or something to do on the water, but not just for camping/hiking probably.

Our campground had a sign that it’s a natural habitat for red ants. We have little kids, so we didn’t even stay. The next campsite was right on top of that one too. We didn’t even stay, we went to the next campsite, elk creek (?), that one was great, and hosts simply switched our reservation which was absolutely amazing!

primitive but nice. Nothing fancy , just the basic paved parking space.Nice view, never over crowded.

If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive place to camp on your way across Colorado, this is a good option. Sites are fairly level with nice tables and fire pits, and the views of the Lake & sunset are great. Plenty of space for a motorhome and Jeep in the site. Pit toilets (I think, but I did not use) and some scattered water faucets are the only facilities, but if you are self contained, this is a nice option. They have a boat ramp as well, but I can’t speak to that since we are not hauling a boat.
