Spruce Grove Campground

Great spot, great trip! Will be back

First of all - there is no treated drinking water available! I thought I had looked carefully at the campground description, but I missed this part (if it is listed) and only discovered it in another review. There is water available, but it needs to be treated to be safe to drink.
We camped in Site 19, which was great. There was some shade, we were right next to the river (and lots of folks passed through our site to access the river - which is fine), and so many hummingbirds and ground squirrels! It was lovely.
We had consistently windy afternoons, which would die down around sunset, maybe? The evenings were calm. Not many mosquitoes. Lots of fish in the river, so bring your gear.
The sites in the center of the campground have no shade, so plan ahead if that's where you end up. The walk-in sites look great, and maybe we'll try to get one of those another time. I saw people with wagons for hauling their stuff in, which seems like a wise idea. The Campsite Hosts never stopped by to say hello, and they didn't seem to be around when I tried to say hello at their site. Different than what I'm used to, but maybe that's the way it is now? (I'm 56, been camping since before I can remember). The pit toilets were very clean and well maintained. I appreciated the hand sanitizer outside and the lights inside left by the hosts.
We took the Brookside McCurdy Trail hike up to Lizard Rock starting at the Twin Eagles trailhead. The first half of the hike is prettier than the second, but since you're heading back to camp, that seemed less important. Definitely bring water along.
We also went to hike the Eleven Mile State Park loop. Also fun and short. It would be a great hike for kids. As mentioned on All Trails, the paths near the lake shore overlap a lot, so it's super easy to get on a different path.
Florissant Fossil Beds Park was another possibility for some hiking, my dad recommends the petrified forest path, but we'll have to do that another time.

Spruce Grove is a wonderful campground because of its nearness to Colorado Springs, its beautiful scenery, and the river. We have always loved it and camped there for years. This year however, we were never able to locate a camp host and the vault toilets were in bad, bad shape.

Quiet and well managed campground.

Great experience.
It is a hike back into the site.
Suggest you bring a cart to haul items to your campsite.
Wood is available but expensive to purchase.
Bring your own water for cooking.
We will be back.

This is one of our favorite places to camp at least twice a year. The new host is very kind and helpful.

Great site, cool rocks around it, listened to the river all night. Very quite.

Small friendly campground. Well maintained. Clean toilets. Tarryall creek access. Not for large rigs.

Beautiful place!

Firstly, the location is visually remarkable. I shall remember it for a long time. Second, the camp was very clean and well maintained. My hat is off to the Camp Host.
