About Father Dyer

Father Dyer Campground is situated on the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake in the shade of a lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forest. The family-friendly campground is a popular summer destination for boating, hiking and fishing. The campground is named after Father John Lewis Dyer, one of the first Methodist ministers to tour Colorado's high country mining camps. For 20 years, beginning in 1862, he travelled the circuit encompassing Alma, Fairplay and Leadville, regularly skiing over the 13,186-foot Mosquito Pass on long, wooden skis.

We reserved 3 campsites next to each other for our family/friends and we were all very satisfied with our weekend. Campsites were spacious, each had a table and fire pit, and we didn't hear our neighbors around us. Bathrooms were also very clean. We'll be coming back again next summer!

One of our favorite spots - the campground is about a 5 min walk down to the lake but separate enough to not be bothered by lake traffic. The sites are pretty well spaced out with decent tree coverage. Theres no water at the campsite but town is maybe 15 min away if you need to grab some.

Campsites were great. Maybe a tad small, but not so bad cuz they were not too close to other sites. Camp host Marcia was great too. Bathrooms were super clean.

We really were lucky regarding the weather. Cool enough during the night that there were nearly no mosquitos and in the low 70's with a gentle breeze during the day. Great weather for hiking in both the mining district and around the lake.

This campground is a short walk to the lake but also a bit sheltered from wind, which is nice.
If you fish, please pack your trash out! We collected so much fishing line, lures, and hooks.

This is a great campground for several reasons.
It's nicely located with a trail to the lake and 20 minutes from Leadville.
The camp host cares about the place and is on top of all the things - the bathrooms were spotless.
This would be a great spot for a family...lots to do, in the shade and the lake is close by.

Campground was beautiful. Our site had plenty fo shade. The only complaint I have is that when making reservation, it read that we were allowed 2 vehicles and one RV. Upon arrival, host came around to collect for 2nd vehicle and showed me where it said on Rec. Gov that RV counted as a vehicle. It did not at the time. I think the site was updated after our reservation 6 months in advance. Marcia our camp host was very friendly and the bathrooms were super clean.

The site was fine, but the water issue really needs to be addressed. Either fix the water supply or reduce the fee, as this is a major amenity that isn't currently available.
